Microsoft phasing out Xbox Points | Game Development | News by Develop

Hopefully this is accurate - I HATE points. Also really wish they'd stop forcing us to buy in predetermined amounts... like, if I'm $1 off for an item on PSN, I don't want to have to add $5 minimum to get it. Just bill us the exact goddamn MOTHER FUCKING AMOUNT!!!

Sorry, bit of rage there but it's an issue that's been driving me up the wall ever since I got my PS3.

That's odd, I've always been able to be billed for the exact amount when using PSN and Steam.

I for one am glad the MS points are being killed stone dead. It's ridiculous that people in the UK are forced to pay more for everything off Xbox Live because £1 is more than €1 (€1.18) and $1 ($1.52) but the amount of MS Points you pay for everything is the same worldwide. Same thing with the Nintendo Points too.

Maybe it's different in Europe, but at least here in Canada Sony does the same nonsense - they have a minimum amount of funds you have to add if you're short and I'm sick of it.

Hell, if SE could move away from Crysta I think Sony and MS can do better too.

Usually if something costs say £4.50 and I only have £2 in my wallet I can opt to be billed for the difference without having to pay for stuff in "blocks" of £5. Same with Steam.

Well it doesn't work that way in Canada, and it really should.

Doesn't work like that on US PSN either. $5 minimum. Has to do with credit card companies charging extra fees if your average transaction falls below a certain amount.

Oh is that what it is? So this is a case of EU socialism vs NA Capitalism then >.> (though technically Canada's a socialist country too)

Yup. If you've ever seen a sign in a restaurant stating that they won't accept credit card transactions below a certain amount of money, it's for the same reason. All of the major credit card companies charge a penalty in higher service fees per transaction if the average transaction amount is too low.

                    Re: Bai Bai MS Points

I just get around it by only purchasing PSN credit in $50 increments (be it physical cards that sometimes go on sale or directly). I know I'll spend the money sooner or later so it rarely "floats" in my PSN wallet for very long, and it makes reading my account history a lot easier by reducing the number of entries. The small amount of floating cash this denies me is worth the time saved and convenience.
