  • FFX-2 added to FFX HD for PS3

Final Fantasy X HD doubles up on PS3 and gets X-2 - Destructoid

The only downside to this news is that Vita owners will have to buy FFX-2 it separately, so SE better figure out how to price that fairly. The silver lining, though, is that both games will be the International versions, which is something we never got to enjoy here in the west.

Wait, so if I get it for PS3, I get both games?

That's awesome. Or, it would be if PS4 wasn't scrapping backwards compatibility and digital purchases... E3 better clear things up.

Re: FFX-2 added to FFX HD for PS3

was the Europe FFX-2 international version fully translated all the extra dialogue in english?
Not sure if Europe got it at all, but think there was english text.

Oh wait only Japan received it. So are they really going to add english VAs? Well so far this HD collection seems to be Japan only.
It would be quite interesting if they not only localize FFX-2 International for PS3 in the west with its HD upgrade, but also update it with full English VAs.
Square Enix probably will anyways since Sony normally requires English VAs for disk release.

Compared to the investments in other bigger projects, adding english VAs would be easy to FFX-2 HD International's extra scenes/dialogue.

Re: FFX-2 added to FFX HD for PS3

International versions tend to include the English dub and sub with the extras the US got and new extras for Japan. In FFX there were additional Dark Aeon fights and expanded content for the Monster Arena, I believe. With FFX-2 International also had new Monster Arena stuff (which included Tidus, Auron and Jecht as monsters for some reason) a new area and a "Last Mission" scenario were added along with two additional dresspheres.

Its possible SE might cut dual audio from this because of licensing reasons. I don't believe they did audio recording internally in Japan when they made FFX or FFX-2, so keeping Japanese voices in may mean the US branch has to pony up licensing fees. Of course, SE could re-record and that's probably for the best unless they really want that Luca scene to remain intact along with Hedy Buress' awful performance in the first game.

I think Tidus is just suppose to be a spaz, though, so I don't know if they should switch out James Arnold Taylor, espeically since he sounded fine in the Dissidia games.

Well not sure if it's easier to re record or just, oh yea they probably will not go for dual audio and just add whatever voice tracks they can. But that might require rerecording anyway if they happen to not be able to reach the previous English VAs.

Re: FFX-2 added to FFX HD for PS3

Well, it also depends on the quality of the audio between PS2 and PS3/Vita. Games like Silent Hill 2 and MGS3 got re-dubbed for their HD/3D versions (though I couldn't really tell a difference).

I'm glad they're International versions and that FFX-2 is getting included in the Ps3 version, because these aspects at least make SE's obsessive premium-pricing on re releases at least feel acceptable. If voice work is redone, then it would more easily justify the $50-$60 price point for PS3 that seems all-too-likely coming from SE.

The concern is, then, how they price the Vita versions separately. Just as an example Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate just came out this week, but the 3DS version is $20 less than the Wii U version,e even though they have the same content and the 3DS version only lacks an online component (because Japan, really). So SE should try to price the Vita versions for less.

Wishful thinking, I know, since Final Fantasy V is getting an iOS/Android port soon and SE is looking at $19.99 for that. They're probably be $30 each on Vita if that's the case.

Don't really care for Final Fantasy: Sailor Moon edition, but might give Square-Enix the money IF they implement cross-save so I can switch back and forth between PS3 and Vita versions.

Re: FFX-2 added to FFX HD for PS3

I think that's been confirmed as a feature for both, but I highly doubt any of it will be Cross Buy.

Honestly, of the RPGs announced for Vita in the last week, its kind of sad that FFX-2 had to be the most exciting. Three Neptunia games were announced and then totally-not-a-blantant-rip-off-of-Persona 3 Mind-0 was also announced. You'd think with such a small captive audience developers would try harder to make something that audience could really rave about. I seriously hope it doesn't take E3 or TGS unveilings to get us there.

I want 3DS and Vita to really compete on RPGs like PSP and DS did, but so far 3DS is just serving up better stuff on that front. I replaced my pre-order of Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate for Soul Sacrifice since I knew I'd just give up on MH's tedium all over again, but ithat's Vita's biggest RPG for now.

Re: FFX-2 added to FFX HD for PS3

SE set up some screens for FFX, its looking nice. They reworked the cutscenes models to be applied to the whole game rather than just simply the cutscenes, which not only helps everything be easier on the eyes, but puts the characters just a little closer to their CGI counterparts. It was always weird that Tidus liked like a white guy in-game and then Pacific Islander in the CGI cutscenes. Same thing with Yuna - white girl in-game, Japanese girl in CGI.

Actually, its kind of weird that the two main characters missed the mark by a wide margin and everyone else at least resembled their CGI counterparts - but they fixed that. Well... kind of.

I think Wada lit a fire under their development teams after seeing the train derailed so spectacularly with FFXIII and FFXIV. Square-Enix looks like they tried very hard with Kingdom Hearts 1.5 HD Remix, and this effort is looking pretty good too. As long as the price is reasonable (~$40 for both games or less), I'm in.

Either that or that Japanese pride finally kicked in after seeing all of the Eidos games show up all of S-E Japan in terms of game quality and sales.

P.S. I like that new Tidus design. Tanner and leaner, and definitely does look much more like the Tidus you see in the intro cinematic.

He's been keeping tabs on Yoshida too - he hasn't shown up in the last few Live Producer Letters just for kicks, lol.

Good to see SOMEONE is going around that company, kicking asses into gear. Lord knows they needed it.

Probably also helps that Atlus, Capcom, From Software, Nintendo and Level 5 are now being seen with the kind of respect that SE used to command on JRPGs, but yeah, Eidos showing them up with the same kinds of cushy development times SE Japan gets probably isnt helping either. Its going to happen all over again with Thief, too.

Its also worth noting that Eidos takes criticism to heart and addresses it faster than the FFXIII and FFXIV teams did. Deus Ex Human Revolution is just shy of a year and a half old and the Wii U Director's Cut (which I'm sure is coming to PS3 and 360 later) answers all the problems of the original release and its DLC. So they're even beating SE Japan in that category as well.

Here's an HD comparison on the Tidus model. Kinda big so I'll spoiler it:

                            Tidus SD vs. HD

That is a very nice improvement. This is actually the kind of effort I want to see in most HD remasters. I'm already impressed with that Nintendo teased for Wind Waker Rebrorn but this and couple of Sony's HD remasters are also well done. Its actually kind of a shame that MGS HD didn't use assets from MGS3D Snake eater, because those were nice as well.

People can complain about the focus on remastering the FFX games first, but if this is what they can do with FFX, just imagine where they could go with FFVII or FFXII later.

Eh?! So they are adding non-lethal options for all the original boss fights?!

Also, Tomb Raider f'ing kicks ass. I haven't seen much in Thi4f yet.

EDIT: Holy crap @ that comparison shot... really makes me hate that Monolith Soft is owned by Nintendo :/

Yeah, their next project will be on the Wii U and therefor HD, but I'd still love to see what they could do with the PS4 and Blu Ray... Can't help but wonder if anyone at SE is kicking themselves for letting those guys go.

EDIT 2: Someone needs to go and show Konami that THIS is how you do a f'ing remaster, and not the last 3 piles of shit they put out (MGS, SH and ZoE)
