Re: FFX-2 added to FFX HD for PS3

MGS HD was not a "pile of shit" it was a competent remaster, its just Bluepoint and the smaller team at Kojima Productions didn't share assets between MGS HD and MGS3D Snake Eater. Could have been many reasons for it. At any rate, its not fair to compare any HD collection to Silent Hill. You just a little too venomous about stuff, Mal.

Also, seeing as Monolith Soft's relationship with Squaresoft and Bamco was terrible, I'm honestly glad they're with a company with cushier dev times like Nintendo. Would you rather them be with a large publisher terrified fo risk like thier prior publishers? The next Xeno game for Wii U already looks gorgeous.

It's not that I'd rather them be with any particular group, just the opposite actually - it's a shame that they can't be an independent developer, free to go multi-platform because they put out high quality stuff and I hate to see them confined to Nintendo's crappier hardware (not a personal attack on Nintendo just pointing out reality here - the PS4 and new Xbox have far better technical specs). It'll probably take more than the next Xenogame to convince me to get the Wii U, but it's a good start. Just again, Wii U is really only just catching up and not truly next-gen. Like I said though, at least the new title will be in HD and won't look like a PS2 game lol >< (that said, Chronicles is still a fine looking game.)

I heard mixed reviews about the MGS remake, but there's no saving the SH2 or ZoE ones - Konami just plain shit the bed on those. SE actually has a pretty stellar track record overall on remakes, and Sony's done a fine job as well.

Argh, I don't think I'll finish Chronicles before Tuesday lol... I'll have to wait a while before I crack open Pandora's Tower. Interesting to note is it's being ported by XSeed. Normally they do superb work, but Lunar SSH was... a mixed bag. The gameplay refinements were great, but the voice acting was a sin against gaming.

You do have to wonder how they feel about the Wii U hardware though. I know they turned in a stellar game with Xenoblade, and their new project looks good too, but one can't help but wonder what they could do with even better hardware. Still, as long as they're happy doing what they're doing, more power to them (see: Quantic Dream's comments about being happy with their relationship w/ Sony this week in a similar vein).

One thing Nintendo does get right is that they let their developers polish games as long as necessary, and don't seem to yank the reins too hard creatively, except where Nintendo core franchise IPs are involved. That counts for a lot.

Xseed isn't doing the voice work - that was already done at Nintendo of Europe just like Xenoblade and The Last Story were - Xseed is just publishing and doing some of the promotion. At this point. That they're doing it again for Nitnendo just leads me to thing its part of Nintendo reaching out to those smaller third parties for future collaborations.

If Fire Emblem Awakening's VA is any indication, though, NOA has come a long way and their voice work with localization isn't really going to be much of an issue. They've really just been tapping the same talent pool most studios do now. Michelle Ruff, Tara Platt, Johnny Yong Bach, Liam O'Brien and Laura Bailey were all in it.

Behind The Voice Actors - Fire Emblem: Awakening

Then again, Laura Bailey is in everything. I practically called her being Nemissa and Naomi in Soul Hackers and sure enough that's exactly who's voicing them.

All that and dual audio too.

So yeah, not worried about NoA managing VAs at this point.

I think the last time they really pulled the reins hard creatively was Star Fox Adventures, but I'm inclined to think more was at play than just Nintendo shoehorning Nintendo characters into that. Rare wasn't exactly focused at the time. Iwata has had the challenge of expanding and cultivating new talent while Yamauchi just worked Miyamoto, Iwata and Gunpei Yokoi hard. Iwata and Miyamoto have been wise to keep Yokoi's philosophies alive and well, though.

Had Yamauchi picked anyone else as a successor, though, I think Nintendo would be in a lot worse of a place. Iwata was the perfect pick. Perhaps not the investor-pleasing pick, but a guy who's been in game development is going to build a better future for the developers under his watch.

I'm a little worried by the fact that SE said they might not be able to add Last Mission even though they said this version of FFX and FFX-2 are the International versions of the games. SE had better not be considering or using this as an excuse to slice out Eternal Calm and Last Mission to sell separately from these releases because we buy compilations and remasters for the completed product, not the current generation's bullshit monetization tactics.

I don't trust Square Enix to price it fairly. It might be safe to expect that they're going to charge for them both as separate games.

We did indeed. The Dark Aeons were fun super bosses (excluding a certain one you have to fight 5 times in a row). We didn't get FFX-2 International, though.
So ends the tale of Nestama the Galka in FFXI~

A more likely outcome: Square-Enix will slice out that extra content and sell it to you as DLC.

If they expand and improve that content - and toss in a couple new dresspheres for good measure - I might have less of a problem with that. Last Mission was more or less what inspired part of the gameplay found in FFXIII-2, in addition to having the recurring 100+ level dungeon.

Eternal Calm, however, needs to be part of the FFX-2 package regardless since it really does show some of the changes leading into FFX-2. Sure, we could just YouTube it now, but its would be nice to see rendered in game.

Hopefully they get around to bringing us FFXII International at some point as well.

Would be nice with the Zodiac Job System and all.

More than likely it'll be on PS4, either through Cloud or possibly retail.

Given SE already had a working prototype for FFXII on PS3 ages ago, I really doubt it. there's not really that much more a remaster gain by being made strictly for next-gen console.

And as strange as SE can be, they know the handheld market is a tremendous cash cow for them. They're not going to gamble HD remasters with cloud streaming in that market.

I wasn't saying PS4 because of increased performance but rather because it's the new system, and it won't run PS3 discs. But PS3 may be safer because of the higher install base (I don't think either of the new systems will be flying off the shelves, at least not right away)
