So, mostly BF stuff, but 2 big takeaways;
- EA is dropping the casual focus, since it didn't pay off for them financial (thank goodness)
- Micro-transactions will be a part of every EA game from hear out.
It's the 2nd part that perturbs me. Generally, I don't mind them if it's either mostly cosmetic, or doesn't negatively impact either my gameplay experience or the balance of the game in an MP setting. I'll give 2 examples;
- In planetside 2, there's all kinds of stuff you can ONLY get if you pay for it, some of it is really strong too, which is total bullshit. Hawken has stuff that you can pay to unlock, or grind normally but if you do so that way it'll take ages - this is also BS.
- Dead Space 3 lets you buy little extra perks for your Scavenger Bots, Resource Packs (which can be paid for with in-game ration seals which are easy enough to get but also wholly unnecessary for veteran players like myself) and then there's a few weapon & costume packs you can buy as well (only the resource can be paid for with seals). All of it is pretty much optional and there to help out n00bs/idiots willing to pay money and honestly doesn't change the game in any meaningful way, good or bad. This is fine, this a model I can live with. I really don't get why so many people flamed the game over this when it's largely inconsequential - the only MP is co-op, which is totally optional and you can always set a private game so only friends can join in if you're worried about someone joining your game with OP equipment and thereby killing the challenge.
I honestly think people were just looking to bitch about something (and there's plenty to bitch about with DS3 but this wasn't one of the key grievances).
