I speak from my own preferences.
We both agree cloud gaming is a joke and Alien: Colonial Marines is horrible.

      Pretty much.

What I do find fascinating is that for the first time in a very long time, Sony does seem to have the hype momentum heading into this generation - at least for the moment. I never really got the impression that the Wii U ever captured any buzz even when it launched. Microsoft hasn't played any of their cards yet, and it seems they were caught a bit flatfooted by the PlayStation Meeting announcement. Valve's Steambox concept operates on a different plane of reality than the big 3, but honestly there's not a ton of excitement there so far either.

The last time Sony had this sort of undivided attention was at the PS2 announcement. Big shoes to fill, indeed. Knowing Sony, they'll probably still hose something up somewhere along the line, but tomorrow will be interesting for sure.

Well I have decided that the Wii U is the last system I buy day one...... no more, even with Nintendo, so this will end my Nintendo day one buy streak since SNES *salutes*

and for me to buy one of the next systems from Sony or MS within a year of their releases, they will have to really WOW me, and I mean REALLY WOW ME.......

I'm just hoping they don't blow it. It's not so much that I inherently like one company over the other, but I do find Sony is more of a risk taker than MS; they support and publish far more interesting, unique titles like Valkyria and Uncharted as opposed to MS which largely just throws money at Devs for timed exclusives in lieu of supporting their own internal studios (other than 343i) and for that, if nothing else, I would love to see Sony get their shit together this go around and actually put a dent in Xbox's market share (not necessarily dominate, as that has bad consequences too).

Valkyria Chronicles was published by Sega, but you're otherwise correct.

Also, Sony always blows it, even when they mostly get it right (see: AT&T after the Vita's applause-worthy $250). I'm keeping my expectations in check until the hardware is actually on store shelves and I see a game running on real hardware with my own eyes instead of prerendered target CGI.

Re: PlayStation Meeting Feb. 20: See the future

I know it was published by Sega (I own it lol and I loved the anime too), but it was a PS3 exclusive - that was my bigger point. Sony has always been the go-to platform for the really unique, single player experiences and I don't want that to ever go away.

They had better have a new Uncharted for launch and maybe one other AAA title if they want to recover from the blows of last gen, along with proper cross-systems chat (like the party system in XBL which is being changed to Skype for the new xbox) and dear lord would it kill them to have a decent amount of storage space on the early releases? 20 and 60 GB was a joke. It'll be interesting to see if they try to launch before Xbox does to get the jump on them.

EDIT: LOL Yeah I can remember the audible groaning & booing at that AT&T announcement (wtf were they thinking? I'm sure Verizon would have been more than happy to work with them...)

I actually had that in my original post but who doesn't love seeing a hilarious technical failure at events like this?

Their demo will OOM (out of memory) crash.

Their firmware will ask the demo-er if they're sure, they're sure they're sure, and if they're sure they're sure they're sure they want to press that button for every button they press.

Re: PlayStation Meeting Feb. 20: See the future

My concern is a small epidemic common to the big three at the last E3, especially where Sony and MS were concerned.

Nintendo also peddled Wii U as a media center, but didn't pimp the media partnerships quite as heavily as MS and Sony did. Sony was kind of the middle ground and MS went overboard on it, almost taking up 20 minutes of the presentation with it. I think both Sony and MS are a looking at their "home media center" dreams at getting sp drunk on the idea that they think they can sell gaming more as a service - which is the very last thing gamers want right now.

While we should take all rumors with a grain of salt - this Gaikai/Playstation Cloud thing is most likely the real deal. Anyone aware of the internet situation in America, the increasing gaps in service and price, along with latency issues, should know why cloud gaming is a problem. Gabe Newell explained it really well in his DICE 2013 keynote.

                          https://www.youtube.com/watch?featur...KIDGh8I#t=569s

This isn't just about the PS3 games, either, it could be used to push PS4 PS Plus "free" games and that would be awful, too.

There are even rumors Sony may phase out PS Plus to adopt a more XBLA-like model because, like it or not, it has worked for MS and I seriously wouldn't put it past Sony the corporation to tell Sony the games division to do it. Sony the corporation doesn't always have the game's division's best interests at heart.

I have stopped paying for XBL after MS screwed up my account recovery so bad....... and if Sony follows MS.... I have a feeling that if I am going to play any game online at all, it will be on the Wii U or PC...... I am tired of paying all these fees -.-

I mean hell, if you look at it this way, even Call of Duty requires a yearly fee now.....

Actually, CoD Elite went free with Black Ops II. I think this was just because they wanted to lure EA into it before pulling the rug from beneath them. Activision just went back to map packs.
