Re: Wind Waker remake for Wii U announced
Ironically enough, I had little to no issue with that in TP... go figure? lol seriously I can't explain it.
The Wii version really didn't offer much over the GameCube version and on top of that flipped the entire world horizontally just to make Link a righty. If I had played the GameCube version I'd have controls that work and the map wouldn't have everything in the wrong place.

I'm with the folks in the comments who are shouting for a Majora's Mask remake. Oh man, the wonders they could do.
Still, pretty awesome news.Originally posted by YygdrasilOriginally posted by NanditoPonies.

Still Iwata did say today was really only for Wii U announcements, but since Wind Waker is getting the HD thing I'm pretty MM is getting priority for 3DS. I think the fan response for 3DS remakes was stronger for MM than Wind Waker. Armando also once explained why WW would be more feasible for an HD remake. I think it had much to do with how WW handled draw distance and how little 3DS would manage to improve that.

????
The only "classic" Zelda game I bash is Zelda 2, and rightly so because it was terrible. I don't bash MM either, I just didn't like it - it had a lot going for it, I just absolutely hated the whole 3-days thing. And to me, "classic" is SNES or older; though I suppose it's been long enough that now we can include PSN/N64 stuff as well.

Wind Waker is a peculiar choice to remake. Artistic taste may vary, but it would definitely benefit from having more polygons. Given its cel-shaded style, though, an HD makeover may look better, but probably won't be the sort of title that shows off what the Wii U can really do graphically. For that, I agree that Majora's Mask would have been a better choice.
Personally, though, I think Monolith's X project is way more exciting than yet another HD makeover. If you want to see what sort of improvements WW might get from going HD, just look at Sly Collection or Okami HD on PS3. The differences are definitely there, but definitely more subtle than games with a less stylized look.

They probably chose Wind Waker because it is one of the most popular Zelda games in Japan.Rahal Gerrant - Balmung - 188 DRK

Majora's Mask is still my favorite Zelda to date, Link's Awakening a close second followed by Skyward Sword and Wind Waker. I'm fine with Wind Waker getting the remake since it was an interesting direction and I loved how much more depth Ganondorf had in it compared to other entries. If Majora's Mask gets a 3DS remake, that's good enough for me.
The next Xeno game is certainly something to be excited about, its just a question of when its coming, really. If they can keep up the sense of scope and ambition Xenoblade had and improve on it I'll be a happy camper with that game.
SMT X FE just blows my mind for existing. I think the last time Nintendo handed over an IP so totally to a third party was F-Zero GX and Amusement Vision did a wonderful job with that. Atlus I know is going to make something really interesting of this. I was actually curious why Kaneko wasn't working much on SMT IV, now I think I know why, he probably jumped at the chance to make this and put his twisted bestiary into HD.

Re: Wind Waker remake for Wii U announced
Originally posted by Armando View PostI respectfully disagree. Zelda II was a good concept but they botched the execution by making almost every humanoid enemy vulnerable to the same tactic (jump and stab in the face), and sending you aaaaaall the way back to square 1 of the world map whenever you lose 3 lives, even if you lost in a dungeon. Add to that the recurring threat of cheap one-touch deaths from monsters that jump at you as you jump over chasms, and you've got one hell of an artificial difficulty. That combination of shallow game mechanics and lazy sadism bumps it down to ok at best. Great is a word I'd reserve for Castlevania 1, or this fan homage:
I find it difficult to reconcile your criticism of one-shot pit deaths in Zelda II (which were rare) versus the many, many you could get in Castlevania (see: endless medusa heads over chasms).
