  • Nintendo Direct - Shin Megami Tenset X Fire Emblem

I had to pinch myself after watching this off Nintendo direct to make sure it was real.

It might seem like an unlikely pairing, but given SMT's weakness exploitatins, Fire Emblem's weapon and spell wheels and SMT having Devil Survivor, I can see this working out rather well.

I like where Nintendo is going with these collaborations they're doing. First SSB, Project X Zone, Bayonetta 2 and now this. Wii U might not keep pace with whatever next gen consoles come or multiplatform games, but if they keep pulling collaborations like this I'll have enough to keep me interested.

Also worth noting they announced two Zelda projects: The first, of course, was very vague and still in early stages, but it was said they're rethinking the Zelda formula a great deal, possibly returning the NES's Zelda's non-linear dungeon progression and having multiplayer elements. Basically, I'm smelling an open world Four Swords.

Then Wind Waker HD. That's a thing coming this fall. Hopefully this means Majora's Mask gets the 3DS treatment soon.

Yoshi is getting an Epic Yarn game.

And Monolith Soft showed off a Xenoblade-ish looking game with similar RPG gameplay and mechs, ending with red X. Highly reminicent of the "Xeno" X. So another Xenosomething

Want it all. It was also said Virtual Console is on the way, it will include GBA games at some point.

Uh...you do realize the last two non-remake Fire Emblems before the 3DS title were for GameCube and Wii respectively right?

This came out of left field but I'll take it.

          Path of Radiance - Gamecube
          Radiant Dawn - Wii

If you have a Wii still, look them up.

I do have conflicted feelings about post-apocalyptic cyberpunk meeting up with high fantasy - like how dippy and fugly Shadowrun ends up looking for it - but then I could see this meshing well if this is where Kazuma Kaneko has been hiding.

He's not as involved with SMT IV as he's been with other installments. I could see his nightmare beasts fitting right in FE, though. The entire SMT beastiary could be monster fodder.

I have a feeling Nintendo won't let Mara and Arioch be in this one. I won't post them, you can google them in conjunction with "SMT" if you wish, You will, however, be scarred for viewing them in all their perverse glory. They did make it into 3DS and DS games, though.

GameCube one was good, but the difficulty was a bit too low (Ike is too OP). The Wii game is amazing though.

The description for the you tube video reads: "Get a taste of a whole new crossover title that is currently under development!". Technically "Gemeinschaftstitel" means "Community/Partnership Title" but in this context it means crossover.

And back to the trailer itself. I'll be in my bunk.

Even if it was... lolGame Cube. Sorry but I just hated that system. There were a few games I genuinely liked but overall I'd say it was my host (and first really) hated Nintendo console ever.

Pikmin, Super Smash Bros, Star Wars Rogue Leader, Super Mario Galaxy Sunshine, Super Monkey Ball, Viewtiful Joe, Paper Mario, Metroid Prime, Resident Evil, F-Zero GX and Wind Waker would like to have a word with you. I've also heard good things of Baten Kaitos, Killer 7, Tales of Symphonia.

You missed out Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem, quite possibly one of the best Survival Horror games of all time.

To be fair you tend to read my mind a lot and suggest the same thing or something very similar a lot in D&D. Comes from us both being Rogues I guess XD

A friend of mine had a GC, and I got to play the majority of those at his place so I never really felt the need to buy one. There just weren't enough games for it that interested me to warrant buying it.

There's not a lot to infer from the SMT X FE trailer however, the cast previewed hails from:

SMT - Sho and Aoi (these are what they were called in novels and drama CDs, rather than Hero and Heroine)
SMT II - Aleph and Hiroko
SMT If... - Protagonists are simply renamable "Boy" and "Girl", you chose which gender
SMT III - The Demi-Fiend and Chiaki
SMT IV - Protagonist and Heroine for now, though rumor has it the girl is named Mary. Not much info on SMT IV yet.

Dunno why the Strange Journey cast isn't repped, since it is confirmed to be main series like these entries. Its possible it just wasn't included for time like a million Fire Emblem characters weren't. Chiaki's inclusion in the starter line-up is odd because she is not a Heroine like Aoi or Hikoko, but what you'd call a Chaos aligned Darwinist. Basically, she feels anything that isn't beautiful or strong should die. In SMT III Nocturne, however, her alignment was called Yosuga because the real Chaos alignment - True Demon - was reserved for Lucifer's path.

As for Fire Emblem, the cast seems to favor characters that western gamers would have familiarity with already - Roy, Marth, Eliwood, Hector, Lyndis, Elise, Ike, Chrom and more.

My bets are on Boy or Girl being our default protagonists or some poor sap of a Tactician who happens upon Steven and a COMP. More or less, Steven is like Stephen Hawking, only an evil bastard that helped start all the problems in the SMT multiverse.

If you're curious about any of the SMT stuff, this is a good link to get you up to speed.

This is pretty cool, but it's almost as strange a crossover as Pokemon Conquest (Pokemon X Nobunaga's Ambition), and probably has a similar sort of niche market. Not to say that there isn't some crossover between SMT and Fire Emblem fanbases, but as with similar weird concepts, you wonder who the game is being made for.
