Depends. If you go through one of the used mail retailers like Glyde or Amazon, then yes, you get more money, but you also incur risk and transit time. Craigslist can also get you more money, and in person, but has its share of drawbacks too if someone decides not to buy once they see the product.

Going to a pawn shop, on the other hand, unless you're one of the lucky people that lives near one of the few remaining mom and pop used game retailers, will more likely than not get you less money than you'll get at GameStop, simply because pawn store owners generally don't know enough about the pricing market for video games to even hazard more than a rough guess as to what each title is worth.

I can name you 4 in my local area that do deal in used games (with varying degrees of pricing knowledge, it really depends on the staff working on those days, some of the staff in one store are dumb enough to take used PC and 3DS games) including one entirely dedicated to Electronics (always a good place to call if your Smart Phone/Mobile Phone has been stolen by pickpockets), used games DVDs and Blu Rays. I think they still have some old HD-DVDs in stock too they they could never get rid of. But that is my local area.

There's a bunch of used video games stores too, one of them a Comic Book Store (which hosts Friday Night Magic and I would love to go but College Loans prevent me) but they stopped buying used games after one of the Pawn Shops basically crashed their game prices.

It was how I managed to make a stupid profit off selling used copies of Tales of Vesperia on e-bay at one time. The game only got a single printing here and is pretty rare so you can quite easily get the equivalent of up to $100-110 which is insane for a 360 game. So it's usually find the Pawn Shops or Used Video Game store that have a copy and have no idea what the game actually is or what people will actually pay for it, buy it and wait until the prices on E-Bay or Amazon skyrocket and offload it for about a $60 profit.

Unlike yourself, who I never chat or otherwise socialize in any capacity outside of this forum.

I think the only reason Sony wouldn't be stupid enough to do this hinges much on the fact that they don't know where the future is going. They can try to slay the Gamestop Dragon if they want to, but Gamestop is acclimating to digital just as good as anyone and Sony's about to go up against a living room PC that downloads games from Steam often for well below retail and its a service that happens to make a lot of publishers and developers happy. All things considered I wouldn't make any retailers your enemy right now, nor make enemies of your own consumers.

Sony has obsessively tried to control or suppress potential markets they didn't like before and it only resulted in biting them in the ass. This is because they spent more time try to fight the future than be part of it. Now they're not leading some of the markets they could have.

Would have to say this is probably because they don't have to pay Steam $10k just to upload a patch to PSN for their game.

Or wait 3 months to approve said patches, or pay exorbitant licensing fees...

Its also a process Apple and Nintendo have done away with for their digital ventures. Sony and MS can and probably will hold on to them at their own peril.
