  • Dota 2 Code?

Friend of mine says he has Dota 2 codes he can give to people but has been slow to getting me one. Saw some people here are on the game and was wondering if any of you would like to give me one. K Thanks.

As terrible as a place the site is, GameFAQs.com Dota 2 board is usually generous enough to give you one. That's where I got mine.

Haven't had any luck in receiving any friend code invites from the game itself. Which is strange seeing as I thought it said it would give you one every 3 games or something like that.

Ha! I guess I should be excused because it's just my first day, but I'm no good at this game at all. Have non-English speakers yelling at me and everything. Problem is I just can't seem to gain levels as fast other players.

Yeah, Dota 2 takes a higher learner curve compared to other MOBA. Not too much difference, but with the ability to deny creeps, runes, and how freakin' strong heroes abilities can be -- it's a lot harder to get use to.

Nothing I can say but learn as you go. Personally I'm sticking with League of Legends and leaving Dota 2 only to be played with people I know. Let me know if you want to join together for a round.

          Re: Dota 2 Code?

I do like to think I'm learning something new every game I play. Stuff I do still seems to test peoples' patience though. Was called noob earlier for not knowing what "laning" is. So I asked, and she highlighted the 3 lanes on the map. I know what the 3 lanes are, but I don't actually know what she meant by "laning" and when I asked, all she said was that I should stop auto-attacking everything.

It wasn't until the game after that somebody was able to calmly explain to me that it wasn't good to advance too much at the beginning of the match and that killing alongside your creeps advances you too much. In my last match, somebody was asking me why I was using mana abilities on creeps. I'm not sure if my explanation (that I had never played Storm Spirit before and was still unfamiliar with how he works) was good enough for him.

Still figuring out unspoken Courier etiquette and when the unspoken time is to stop building resources and start making a push for the enemy Ancient.

I guess I never knew how thin-skinned I am. Was generally good at my jobs in Final Fantasy XI so I'm unaccustomed to people being upset with me.

            Re: Dota 2 Code?

I can explain a few of those concepts, from my experience in League of Legends.

The game begins with the lane phase, where people spend most of their time gaining experience from minions. If you push your lane, you're moving where the minions meet further towards your opponent's tower. This makes it risky to stand near the minions and collect experience, because if you're ambushed by a roaming player you've got a lot farther to go to reach the safety of your tower. Some people push their lanes so that they can roam without worrying about their lane opponents pushing up to their tower too quickly. The solution to accidentally pushing is a technique called last-hitting. You let the minions battle it out and only hit the ones weak enough to kill and earn money from. With this method, you're a lot less likely to kill the enemy minions too quickly and over-extend.

Denying your opponent money or experience is challenging, but it can pay off. Zoning an opponent out means you're bullying them out of the range in which they can collect experience from minion kills. You don't always need a stronger champion to do this; sometimes just being aggressive can keep them on the run. Just be wary that they may call your bluff. Denying your opponent money is a little more risky, because it requires you push the lane straight into their tower. They'll have a hard time competing with the tower for the last hit.

If you want to use mana on minions, that's your thing, but it's good to find a balance. You have to remain in your lane to collect money and experience, but purchase items to remain competitive, so you've got to find the lulls and use them appropriately.

DOTA 2 in a nutshell AKA why Penny Arcade is always right:

The MOBA community is beaten only by the Fighting game community for level of cuntishness displayed by the playerbase. Any PvP only game in general will have the below:

"Stop Having Fun" Guys - Television Tropes & Idioms
Scrub - Television Tropes & Idioms
Serious Business - Television Tropes & Idioms
Suffers Newbies Poorly - Television Tropes & Idioms
Unpleasable Fanbase - Television Tropes & Idioms
Small Name, Big Ego - Television Tropes & Idioms
Arrogant Kung-Fu Guy - Television Tropes & Idioms

They are games you ONLY play with friends and god help you if you ever run across someone that claims to have been sponsored in DOTA2

Basically if you want to have fun, play with friends only or stay the fuck away. The Only MOBA game that isn't like that is Warhammer Online: Wrath of Heroes, that just has people screaming that the game sucks on the forums purely because it's Bioware when the people that actually play it are mostly Warhammer Online players, and are pretty nice guys with the warped sense of humour that the Warhammer fandom generally has.

Is there a trope for people who classify their lives based on tropes?

Every game has idiots that can ruin the fun. Every free game will be clogged up with Brazilians.

Eh I mostly linked them because they're useful ways of showing how the fanbase of that genre behaves but I'm sure there's a probably a trope out there.

On European free to play game servers it's Russians (elitist and only really concerned about e-peen despite being no better or worse than the average player), Spanish (arrogant despite just plain bad compared to the average player) and Polish (racist and spam the hell out of global chat channels) that have that reputation. SWTOR, Guild Wars 2, D&D Online, DOTA 2 and LoL are most notable with the above example.

When I played CS, the German servers were always filled with people running bots, and admins abusing their powers. This led me to believe Germans have no regard for the rules.

That is because Germans mostly play on English servers because German servers tend to be dead.
