  • Do you think PS All Stars is judged harshly, mew?

People always buy Call of Duty no matter how many there are out there and many RPGs and things try to be a shooter like Call of Duty (Resident Evil) ,

but PS3 people seem against something their console selection doesn't have, which is a Brawl inspired type of game?

And it isn't 100% the same, the way defeating opponents is different too. (but ya, the one thing they should work on is the character selection, but for their first one, it's actually decent considering Blazblue started with only 10 characters. and the N64 Smash game had under 20 characters.)

The job of a first party developer is to lead and create original content. Uncharted, God of War, Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, Ratchet and Clank and Little Big Planet are the kinds of games that should inspire third parties to innovate and assimilate their ideas in their own way. Resident Evil and Tomb Raider have taken cues from Uncharted, Devil may Cry draws some inspiration now, there are games that take their artistic cues from Ico and SotC and platformers that take inspiration from R&C.

Its the same way with Nintendo's numerous IPs and even MS exclusives like Halo and Gears of War. All of this stuff is influential

Playstation All-Stars is a Nintendo game with Sony characters in it. Calling it a love letter to Playstation fans is insulting because it does not go it own way, but rather shamelessly imitates a well-known Nintendo IP. Why is the game even 2D? Its not where Playstation characters come from and its not leading, just a weak imitation. Anyone that was excited about something so soulless would be just as happy to smack action figures together.

I don't even like Smash Bros. as much as I do Dissidia Duodecim, but Sony could have tried harder. Its disappointing, not to mention Kratos is practically Metaknight tier.

No one even asked for this game on Black Friday. Sony sent it out to die, but paid IGN well to sing its questionable praises.

No offense (Just kidding. Take offense), but you obviously haven't even touched the game. If you did, you'd realize, once again, you're talking out your ass. While the only argument you proposed in regards to 2D I can somewhat see where you're coming from, your entire post reeks of "I've only seen videos and never played."

        Smash Bros
-Many characters are carbon copies, except with different models and very slight stat adjustments (Pichu, Pikachu, Falco, Fox, Ganondorf, Captain Falcon, Mario, Dr. Mario......)
        -There's no combo system
        -Kill by hitting off edge
        -Actual 1P gameplay
        -Shit online
        -Total item frenzy

        All Stars
-No two characters play the same. At all.
        -Combo system
        -No HP/percent bar
        -Single player experience is garbage
        -Good online
        -Competitive rank system
-Sometimes lucky to see two items in an entire match
        -No Pokeballs (sadness)

Also, Kratos is easymode if you aren't failboat and shut him down. If I can win FFA as Fat Princess against 2 Kratos and 1 Raiden, no excuses.

Re: Do you think PS All Stars is judged harshly, mew?

I think playing four characters over the course of a half hour is more than enough to get an impression. If Sony had a better game on offer, they should have shipped out a more refined demo with more options.

The scoring in that version of PSABR was pretty shoddy. SSB scores by the last man standing and PSABR's demo didn't even keep a tally on its kills while the matche was in play. So who won was a mystery until the end. Big Daddy was not really true to form. See, in Bioshock, you do not just casually take on a Big Daddy, they're "large, slow, but very powerful" archetype, yet the Big Daddy I played could barely go toe-to-toe with Parappa and Jak. Saying you can beat Kratos if you don't suck doesn't mean the character isn't overpowered and in need of some nerfing, either, being true to a character can be problematic in a fighting games if you don't balance it.

Just as an example, Elizabeth in P4A would be a megaboss tier character if they didn't hang her HP so low. Kratos is more like Sagat in the original SFIV - too much reach, too much power and too much meter too quickly. Callbacks and homages are fine, but being faithful to a character's power in a fighter based of his home game is stupid. SSB doesn't do it, MVC doesn't do it, Dissidia didn't do it.

The combos didn't seem all that in-depth, fairly BNB, but nothing competitive tier like SFXT or P4A have, PSABR does have items along with the option to turn them off, just like SSB - so i don't know why you highlight that as a difference.

If I was having a party and I had this year's fighters as my options for what we'd all play. PSABR wouldn't even be a consideration, just cast aside in favor of better options. Probably doesn't help that Sony's IPs aren't nearly as endearing as the ones from Capcom, Marve, Nintendo, Square and a dozen others. I mean, I totally had those Killzone and Resistence guys in mind, not Ico or Badman

But I'm really not looking at this from the perspective of mechanics alone, but also the spirit of the product and the core problem is that the soul of this product doesn't feel like Sony's. Not the Sony that makes Uncharted, Gran Turismo, God of War or No Heroes Allowed, anyway. Playing this feels like watching one of those 80s flicks where the nerd manages to reshape his identity to be part of popular crowd but loses the girl he was after because she found out he was faking his way up the social ladder to impress her. Makes me feel sorry for the game.

You might not see that as important, but that's because you obviously want to bang action figures together because that's what you think these games are.

Again, you do not mention much besides your own opinions. Which is fine, but doesn't bring much to the discussion.

More true of Melee than of Brawl (which is actually impressive on Brawl's part considering, y'know, 40 different characters . . .).

Most people frown upon items in Smash Bros, though.

While true, I don't see the relevance of this. Most games develop clone characters eventually; they're just cheaper to add than the average character. Also, Fat Princess seems to play a lot like Peach if you ask me.

Two moves are the same. Hip slam in air and butt bounce. Can understand stealing her butt bounce (ya know... her being massive and all), but the hip slam seems weird given she doesn't have Peach's trademark air float. Otherwise, Fat Princess revolves around comboing with her villagers that she summons. Also, the relevance is that people are complaining about a small roster when no two characters are alike.

Again, the hatred comes from people that played less than an hour of the game and call themselves experts. As well as the similarities to Smash Bros. Which is strange, given the fact I don't see people complaining that the Wild Arms and Legend of Legaia games are similar, because they use the same combat system.

Here is a good summery of PlayStation All Stars

"Play Station All Stars is a poor attempt to clone Smash Bros."

Opinion or not, it is true ;p

Thing is, you say it like the only reason Smash Bros's roster is large is the clones. Melee had 26 characters - take away Pichu, Young Link, Roy, Dr. Mario, Ganondorf, and Falco, and you still have 20 characters - the same as All Stars without the 2 DLC characters. But it's moot anyways - all of the clones performed very differently from their counterparts even if the moves looked similar on the surface. Like YM said, Brawl blew up the roster and differentiated the clones even more, though it did lose combos and almost everything else that made Melee competitive.
