  • Dikembe Mutombo's 4-1/2 Weeks to Save the World (by Old Spice)

Canabalt developer teams up with Driftlab, Super Crate Box animator and more to create Old Spice game starring Dikembe Mutombo | Polygon
The developer of Canabalt, Adam Saltsman, has teamed up with other developers to create a hilarious Old Spice game starring retired Congolese American basketballer, Dikembe Mutombo.

Titled Dikembe Mutombo's 4 1/2 Weeks to Save the World, the game puts players in the shoes of the famed basketballer as he completes a series of games in an attempt to stall the end of the world as predicted by the Mayan calendar.

It appears that a new game will be made available each week, with the final game unlocking on Dec. 17. The first game, released today, requires players to travel through a literal artery to the heart of the United States of America wearing a bottle of Old Spice deodorant that doubles as a jetpack while throwing ballots at dancing Americans.

Adam Saltsman said on Twitter that the game is a collaboration between Old Spice, Wieden Kennedy, Driftlab, Powerhouse Animation, and Saltsman's team, which consists of Super Crate Box animator Paul Veer, the sound designer for Antichamber, The Cell and more, Robin Arnott and musician Kozilek.

    The game is playable here.

        Wait.

This guy is handling the soundtrack to a game about the Apocalypse? . . . Fitting.

I'm just dumbfounded that Old Spice is paying to make this game.

            Advertizing is advertizing.

Don't be. Companies pay to place their logos on condoms, print their slogans on toilet papers, and even place advertisements inside of some MMO games ...
