    MEEEEEEEW!!

Rosenkreuzstilette Freudenstachel is far greater than a MM clone, it even surpasses what it copies, and brings more originality and brilliance with it, mew!!!! =0.0=

Sequel to PC Mega Man clone Rosenkreuzstilette is out - Destructoid

    =^.^=

oh ya it is better than anything in the genre in every way, including level design difficulty balance, characters, story, music, enviornments, art, etc.!!!!
I would buy it if I played PC games (and had a PC that could run things smoothly), but I prefer consoles. Maybe there will be a PS3 port, mew?

full walkthrough Spoilers (if you actually plan on buying it, don't watch the whole walkthrough otherwise you would have spoiled all the surprises, mew)

oh mew! >< Don't judge a book by it's cover! It's much better than what you give it credit for! Did you even watch the whole thing? Just the first minutes won't express the full quality of the game, mew.

Okay, there's enthusiastic exuberance, and then there's fightin' words. To suggest that this highly derivative piece of crap surpasses every Mega Man game in every way is not just appallingly ignorant, it's offensive. And yes, I did watch a significant portion of the video. I wasted about 15 minutes going, "wow, those bats were copy/pasted from Mega Man X," "oh hi, Chill Penguin's megablast," "hey, it's the dog enemies from Wood Man's stage in MM2," "oh look, it's the EXACT CONFIGURATION OF FIRE PILLARS that blocks the entrance to the first ever Wily stage." There is nothing new or innovative about these level designs. This is not a clever remix that brings together the best of the originals in creative new ways. This is a ripoff, plain and simple, that attempts to make money by reskinning Mega Man as a series of moeblobs.

um, that is unfair to deliver a "review" based on just the first 15 minutes, mew. Even review websites wouldn't review anything based on the first 15 minutes, they would at least see what it entirely has to offer for the whole playthrough, not just the start, mew.

Also, reconfigurations is an art in itself. Like people that make art out of lego blocks, didn't make the legos themselves, but they still make interesting things with them.

I mean, it's like saying Super Mario Bros 2 is "just a Doki Doki Panic ripoff", when SMB2 reinvented the formula in positive ways, even though it did reuse the gameplay and stuff, mew, it's still possess originality and artistic reinvention.

but you see, at least Rosenkreuzstilette series makes its own backgrounds, enemy versions, music, etc. mew. You can't excuse Nintendo for SMB2 copying Doki DOki Panic, but slap Rosenkreuzstilette developers on the wrist for reinventing the MM formula in a different way, mew. It has gameplay similarities, but over half of it is original, including story, characters, and even goes further with not only including 8 "Masters" but also 4 "Grand Masters" before the leader's base, that can also be completed in any order.

Is it bad that the only thing that has annoyed me about the video so far is that the German makes no sense whatsoever?

It is said that in Japan, the German language may be used to name or describe mystical or magical sorcery and stuff, mew (I guess an easy example are the Vandenreich and Quincy in Bleach manga, which use German words for some names and techniques.) German taught in Japan is like how Latin is taught in other regions.

There's indie games and then there's uninspired copypasta hack jobs like this that dare to bill themselves as a "tribute." This is like a horrible cover and it doesn't help that some stuff from Castlevania was also ripped off, reskinned and thrown in as well.

I have more respect for games like Cave Story, VVVVVV, Mutant Mudds, Super Hexagon, Bit.Trip, Sword & Sworcery and Bastion for being games that feel retro but are uniquely classic in their own way. Even recent stuff like Sine Mora and Liberation Maiden are games that feel like games from another time despite being contemporary and original. This is all stuff I can respect.

I'm not talking about Doki Doki Panic, I'm talking about this crap. If I can watch for 15 minutes and not see a single thing that is original or improved in any way, then your claim that it's better in every way has a big hole in it. Nobody in their right minds would sit around for an hour and 45 minutes waiting to be impressed by something when everything they've seen so far is garbage.

                    You're doing it wrong, J-9.

The correct answer to "What is an awesome platformer that was originally a reasonably quality platformer ripoff of a popular title?" is Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams

P.S. Crappy Mega Man ripoffs that add nothing to the formula besides nonsense German names are crappy.

The problem is people are only concentrated on gameplay innovation, while ignoring the fundamental artistic qualities that are merged with familiar gameplay, but experienced differently.

                        Giana Sisters is looking great,

but although Rosenkreuzstilette Freudenstachel borrows from things like MM and SMB, it's still better in many categories in its own 2D style way, including backgrounds, character designs, story cutscenes, antagonists (all 13 of them!!) and the way it has reshaped MM gameplay into something with more intense and amazing presentation, mew.

do you mean from gameplay standpoint? Well there's only so many ways the wheel can be reinvented before it's not a wheel anymore, mew.

then your claim that it's better in every way has a big hole in it. Nobody in their right minds would sit around for an hour and 45 minutes waiting to be impressed by something when everything they've seen so far is garbage.
Well if they perceive something as such, then their own opinions are holding them back from seeing the brighter side of the picture.

It's like someone walking out after watching the first 15 minutes of Fellowship of the Ring. The beginning parts may seem slow and normal, but it does get better!!!!

That's why I shared a video link to a longplay video so people can evaluate the ENTIRE game, instead of just the first parts (which the first parts isn't a complete representation of how brilliant it is and much more amazing it gets than the MM series itself, in my opinion. )

Rosenkreuzstilette Freudenstachel even has done in a single game what the entire MM has been unable to do, making a story and cast of characters that have more human interaction, and battles that mean much more. Plus Rosenkreuzstilette Freudenstachel has the best climax in plaforming history!! =^^=

Doki Doki Panic was Nintendo's own IP, reskinned as Mario because it would be an easy sell in the US at the time and also because Japan was a touch arrogant in thinking the real SMB2 was too hard for US gamers, too. They quickly learned from that by the SNES generation. Turns out were were pretty hardcore about SMB3, Zelda and Metroid.

You can't really compare the market of the 1980s to the indie developers of today.

A Nintendo reskin is still a reskin. Regardless if it was the same company or not, mew.

Don't place Rosenkreuzstilette Freudenstachel on the same boat as Rokko Chan, which admittingly is a shallow clone, compared to this.

And Rosenkreuzstilette Freudenstachel cared enough to expand its own cast of characters

                            Strudel
                            Dolis Warmind
                            Pamela Arwig
                            Eifer Skute
                            Schirach Fühler
                            Lecht & Rink Refraktia

unlike Nintendo, which are stuck with the shallow mentality of two plumbers and two Toads, despite having a playable Princess before, they don't even have the intelligence outside of Super Princess Peach, Mario Party and Mario Kart games to give Peach playable use in their flagship console platformer for Wii U, NSMB U.

Nintendo just recycles the SAME story concept. They deserve credit for bringing back the lovable Koopalings, but besides Bowser JR and Bowser again, they don't care to introduce NEW characters on the heroes and villains side, and they have more money and resources than these indie developers.

yet these developers have shown to produce a lot more originality. Originality is not limited to gameplay. Otherwise, similiar genres like 2D shmups, soccer games, etc. would be reviewed the same since they generally share the same gameplay framework.

That's funny, because when you came in here you said that it was "better than anything in the genre in every way." But now gameplay isn't one of those ways. Are you going to back down on the level design as well? Because the parts that aren't directly copy/pasted from the NES games are simplistic and uninteresting. And the music? Really? This isn't bad, but you're saying it's better than anything Setsuo Yamamoto and Yasuaki Fujita have ever done in a platformer. Really.

If you're going to come in here with a claim like "it is better than anything in the genre in every way," i.e. every game in one of the most beloved game series of all time is worse than a doujin hackjob, you'd better be able to back that up with something better than "oh, if you disagree then your opinions are holding you back."
