The distinction you're trying to make is inherently dumb. 360 has the software to be a casual gaming platform and for some households, it is. Same with PS3 and Wii.

When you say "hardcore" you really mean "caters to ME" and casual means "caters to other people who are not me."

"Hardcore" used to mean the guy that had all the systems and played games down to the core like it was a fucking science. That guy that studies fighters down to the frame and knows the Pokemon metagame like the back of his hand. He's hardcore.

You? No.

Me? Gaming enthusiast. I don't shut the fuck up about games. I am neither entirely casual and only have rare hardcore moments like with SMT, Fallout or Metroid.

People who say the WiiU or any other Nintendo system is worthless or a paperweight really have no clue what they are talking about. As someone who tried to get all the systems at some point, I find it funny that some people try so hard to give some consoles bad names. I mean yeah some systems really deserve the hate... As someone who tried to get all the systems at some point, I find it funny that some people try so hard to give some consoles bad names. I mean yeah some systems really deserve the hate... Consoles are just computers with old tech, and Nintendo always sells their consoles with the oldest, supplemented with a new way of using it. IMAGINE THE FUN YOU'LL HAVE. IMAGINE THE POSSIBILITIES WHEN YOU ARE THE CONTROLLER. Imagine this whole thing isn't a piece of shit. That's what most people have to do, right?

That sounds reasonable. It's like telling somebody about this awesome new condom you tried while on vacation in Germany, that it was ribbed for everybody and their mother's pleasure, and covered in all kind of lubricants that prevent the transmission of STIs, but waiting until the end to reveal it was made out of sandpaper.

Not really, I mean the games can be pretty good, but the hardware is garbage no matter how many colorful ribbons you can put on it.

Still, this time around Nintendo has the chance to enter the HD realm (albeit a generation late) so they better do a good job or the Wii U will be pointless when you can already get the "good gameplay" games for the masses if you have already own a Wii.

The most powerful console has never won a single generation - not even once.

Next generation will probably determine the fate of the most redundant platform holder. I don't see Nintendo or Valve falling into that particular situation as they actively look for ways to avoid producing hardware or services that are deeply redundant. Given I can, however, get most games on Steam that come out on Sony and MS platforms - yeah, I don't think the next round will go well for one of those two. Sony's still on shaky financial ground and MS could actually end up more damaged by Windows 8 than their lacking first party support. The PC gaming market probably will not take kindly to Windows 8, exclusives do matter and Sony and Nintendo have more in that regard.

Still, Sony can come up with some amazing hardware, fuck up big and still not apologize for it and that gives MS a chance. Still, Xbox Live, its ads and feels could put it at a disadvantage now with three major platform-holders being totally free, two of which have optional premium subscription tiers.

Wii U and TVii shows Nintendo is well-aware the Smart TV is coming and can either remain in the equation for entertainment and games or remove itself from that equation entirely. TVii was a curve I didn't see coming, so I'm curious to see how MS, Sony and even Apple and Google respond to it. What I wouldn't do is underestimate that particular feature, TV junkies would love it to pieces.

Whole conversation is moot. I've spent less money upgrading my PC over the last 6 years than it would have cost to buy an HD console at launch and it runs every cross-platform title that comes its way just as well at higher resolutions. As far as I'm concerned all consoles are overpriced paperweights.

Yeah, I have a feeling that wouldn't end well for Apple.

You know, what with the rampant, unmitigated piracy of Nintendo IPs (among others) on the App Store on iOS, which is integrated into Apple TV.

Yeah, that. I can think of a number or third parties, indie developers and maybe even competitive rivals that would enjoy joining Nintendo in a counter-lawsuit against Apple. After the whole Samsung thing, i doubt Apple is going to be so uppity about suing people.

You're basically conceding my point. I'm honestly not expecting the third party port trend to hold for Wii U for long, but I do expect it to have enough clout to get its own unique exclusives and still have strong first party titles. Its the draw for me on 3DS and Vita as well.

The next Playstation and Xbox are platforms I will not need.

unless they land some Atlus games, fuck 'em.
