Re: Sept. 13th Wii U news stuff

Funny how I can rattle off eight third party games I'd like for Wii U, most of my DS, Wii and 3DS library is also third party and yet Mal's the one that only ever plays Nintendo games or games co-produced by them (hi TLS) on Nintendo consoles. Hell you cant stop gushing about how good Twilight Princess and Metroid Other M were and even I wouldn't touch those two shitpiles again.

How powerful is the Wii U compared to the PS3 and the 360?

PS > And it has 2GB of ram and 25GB BD-ish media? Not bad.

Still, nothing that would actually make me want to get a new console after this generation.

The RAM seems to be halved for two purposes, one half for the games and the other mostly existing to keep the video stream to the WiiPad controller lag free. The demos of Metroid Blast (a Nintendo Land minigame) and CoD Black Ops II in particular showed it was capable of processing those two very different player perspectives into one local game on the same console rather than doing splitscreen for both players on the TV.

In the long run it could hold back the Wii U from keeping up with Sony and MS's offerings, but I imagine this depends heavily on which games require the WiiPad and which do not.

Re: Sept. 13th Wii U news stuff

It'll take another Gamecube-sized failure to get me to disrespect Nintendo. Wii U, though ridiculous to many at first blush, appears to avoid most of the Gamecube's failings (though, like "just an N64 with better graphics," "just a Wii with better graphics" is a thing to be avoided).

That said, what concerns me the most about the Wii U is the boasted game lineup. By this, I mean that several of the games that they are now enthusiastically offering on the Wii U are the same sort of games that, well, just plain made me not care enough to get a 360 or PS3. I mean, Bayonetta 2? Call of Duty Black Ops 2? I honestly expect more clever fare than that from Nintendo, particularly since going out of their way to avoid being just another console for "dudebros" was a significant factor to the Wii's success.

Re: Sept. 13th Wii U news stuff

Actually, I see this console skewing more to a hardcore niche in the long run than I do a mainstream core system. I'm not interested in most of what's being ported over, though TTT2 I am for since it looks like Tekken tripping on Miyamoto's drug stash.

Platinum Games actually made one of my favorite DS games, Infinite Space - which was literally Star Trek the RPG in some respects. I'd love to see them do another, be it console or handheld. Now they're doing The Wonderful 101, which seems like a Viewtiful Joe/Pikmin hybrid. Considering many of them are formerly of Clover and have made Viewtiful Joe and Okami, they tend to feel right at home on a Nintendo platform - so hey, why not Bayonetta, too?

Plus after how Bayonetta performed on 360 and PS3 (not well), it didn't seem like Sega was going to let Platinum make another without a partner, so Nintendo gets to play hero for the fans on this one and headlining on a console that doesn't have Devil May Cry or God of War could be to their benefit. I like Bayonetta, even if she's a bit racy.

The Wonderful 101 is exactly the sort of fare I expect from a Nintendo platform. This game would NEVER happen anywhere else:

I remember when people bought a SNES specifically for SMWorld. and a N64 specifically for SM64. NSMB U seems interesting, but they should have made Peach or Daisy playable like in SMB2, mew. They could invent someone else to save, mew. Even Sonic didn't need to save Amy Rose that many times.

Yeah, nothing of what I'm reading about it really appeals to me, even though this is supposed to be an attempt to bring some core gamers back. But I'll just say this: If Nintendo brings HD versions of SMT and Falcom games to the Wii U you can count me in.

I am hoping now that there are two screens, we can get some form of a DS or even 3DS player for the Wii U, there, I love my 3DS/DS game collection... but I just can not sit there with the thing long enough.

"Back in my day, people didn't explain the joke"? I don't know, that doesn't seem to quite work.

I'm pretty sure it was for the "U" puns. I like the title of the game, though, its catchy.

                            I also found this hysterical:

People say they want third party support and exclusives for Nintendo and when it happens...

I mean, never mind the fact Bayonetta didn't sell to expectations on 360 and PS3, or that Sega refused to greenlight a sequel as the license-holder. And let's get mad at Nintendo saving a game thought to be canned, funded the development and are publishing it, essentially taking the risk for Sega here. Sure, being an exclusive published by Nintendo likely means their fingers are all in the pie and it will never see another platfom, but the fact the game is happening at all is something real fans would be happy about. And the real fans probably are.

oh mew, Nintendo sure knows how to get people to buy their console, well some, mew.

But Zelda herself would have to be the main playable character of Wii U Zelda before they get more people to be interested, mew.

I think the last four Zelda games on consoles have more or less shown Zelda is capable of being more than a damsel in distress the whole game. Making Zelda the protagonist isn't what people are really clamoring for. There is, however, a large a sector of the fanbase that would like to see Female Link become a thing. Given the hero has seen so many incarnations, it seems a reasonable request, though i don't know how that changes the series otherwise.

Well, other than more people calling Link "Zelda."

Does Female Link rescue Zelda and they become BFFs? Or maybe they already were as kids? I dunno. Its not really my fanfiction.
