'Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes' reportedly teased in Fox Engine debut [update: first art] - JoyStiq



Not much to go on yet, but there's an image of Snake in MSF gear so its safe to assume this is a Big Boss story. Peacewalker did end on a cliffhanger where Snake had to deal with one of Zero's agents who tried to jack his prototype Metal Gear. The base was delclared "Outer Heaven" and upon some bitter reflection regarding The Boss and Zero, he told Kaz and his troops to star calling him Big Boss.

So now we get to see where it all goes bad, I'm assuming.

Well, for starters I believe David Hayter has already said he's done voicing/acting as snake so automatic fail right there.

I seriously doubt he'd turn down another reprisal of Snake.

Mark Hamill reprises Joker months after he said he was done with him in Arkham City. Leonard Nimoy, despite being retired from acting, is still reprising Xehanort in Kingdom Hearts and showing up at Star Trek conventions. Also, Kojima always says he's done with MGS... til the next one.

Latest news is Ground Zeroes is a prologue to MGS5 and could be coming to PS3, 360 and PC next year.

Upon reviewing the trailer it seems like we can go with the following:

Peacewalker Spoilers incoming!

- Chico needs rescuing and hasn't aged, Paz was just found in the ocean recently, so the time is probably a week or two after Peacewalker
- This is somewhat reinforced by the choice of song in the trailer, the original version of "Here's to you," by Ennio Morricone, Joan Baez in 1971, so its still 1974
- An updated version of the song appeared in MGS4's credits
- The setting of the trailer is a black site for the CIA in Cuba, but they said there were other locations to travel via helicopter
- "XOF" is Cipher, Zero's offshoot organization of FOX which will become The Patriots.
- The disfigured man shown in the trailer is likely Vladimir Zadornov. He used a prosthetic hand in Peacewalker so why not prosthetics for his face as well?


At any rate, they have the same tailor.

- Zadornov was revealed to be a KGB/CIA double agent in Peacewalker, alongside Paz, who also revealed her connections to Cipher, so him being Cipher makes sense.
- The fellow talking to Snake is probably Kaz Miller, since only he and Campbell have ever told a Snake "Age hasn't slowed you down one bit."
- The Japanese voice actor I do recall portraying Kaz Miller in the Peacewalker JP demo is also found here, so yeah, its Kaz.
- Snake says "Home in time for dinner" as well, his flippant response to Zero in MGS3
- Ongoing Time Paradox - the disfigured man "rewards" Chico with a Walkman. Walkmans were no in production til 1979, earbuds a bit later.

That's pretty much all I found regarding the trailer.

My only question is why Chico has a headphone jack insert in his chest. That was weird.

Kinda surprised how little talk there is about this one. This is the game that sprung me out of most of my apathy toward the 2013 line up, i was not expecting a game like this to come around. I mean, we know MGS5 was happening, but the idea that they seem to be expanding on Peacewalker in an open-world context is really exciting to me. I loved Peacewalker, its second only to MGS3 for me.

Though i am curious how they plan to work cars and helicopters into stealth.

PS > And about the lack of talk I think it's due to people still being in shock about the awesome opening and just going blank. What can you say about a game like this? You already know it's going to be awesome so the best you can do is try to forget about it or you'll suffer very slowly for a year while the game is actually out.

I'm almost entirely sure that's why Kojima put PW in the HD collection instead of the first game.

Now I HAVE to buy it.

Well, it did leave us with a cliffhanger for a couple years now. MGS has been on PSN for years, you can't exactly make an HD version of that (Well, you could, but there wouldn't be much to gain) or port the Nintendo-developed version.

Also, Volgin and The Boss' horse were in the trailer. The man in red surrounded by flames and A woman on a horse. Patient has a rather significant mullet and not many other protagonists in games have that.

EDIT: this actually appears to be the MGS5 reveal, given this. its very faint in the trailer, but more obvious in this pic.



I'm hoping J( takes the bait and thinks this is brand new IP and the greatest thing ever.

I don't don't what to make of that part with the flaming whale eating a helicopter, though.
