Most role-playing games have a level cap. It's to ensure that the game doesn't become outrageously broken as long-term players become monstrous bulldozers, one-shotting the very last boss for giggles. You're only allowed insane DPS if you're Athene, apparently.
But to make up for the level cap in Diablo III, Blizzard is about to raise it to 160… but needless to say it comes with a catch.
Blizzard apparently can't just call a level cap increase a level cap increase. Instead they're calling it "Paragon Levels".
After you hit level 60, any further experience you earn from killing monsters will begin to count toward Paragon levels, which level up your core stats and add 3% to Magic Find and Gold Find. You also get a fancy new border surrounding your character portrait.
The trade-off is that Magic Find will be limited to 300% before Nephalem Valor stat boosts. The idea is to get players to stop equipping so much Magic Find and instead use their slots for other stats surrounding the noble goal of murdering things. Eventually Blizzard wants to phase out Magic Find altogether.
This will become available when the new patch arrives.
So, how long do you think it will take for somebody to max out their character again? Personally, we give it a week after the patch comes out, but we'll take some over-under on it.
