Metal Gears Solid 4, one of the best games of 2008, now has Trophy support. Just pop in the old disc and be prompted for an update – which we should all be used to with the PS3 by now.

The 516MB update adds 34 Trophies, which can be reviewed on the PlayStation Blog. Sony has also stated future retail versions of the game will offer native Trophy support out of the box, but no timeline was given about when those copies will hit. Now, let's go get our 45-minute cutscene on again!

Honestly, I was looking for a reason to play it again one more time... there it is. However now that I've just started ME2 (and EB has ME3 on sale for $39.99 this week instead of 59.99) it's going to have to wait.

Also sony is putting out 2 new HD Collections - a GoW collection (again lol) that includes all 3 console games and both PSP games, all remastered in HD and an Infamous collection that includes the Festival of Blood DLC, both for $40. Pretty gewd stuff.

Now if only SEGA would put out a patch for Valkyria...

While I'd usually agree, MGS HD Collection was pretty whip smart about including humor in its achievements.

Like if you kill Ocelot in the early part of MGS3's Operation Snake Eater the achievment is "Problem Solved, Series Over." Its essentially a nod to MGS4. MGS2 has one called "Snake Beater." i'll let you figure out what that one goes to.

Oh achievements don't bother me, I'm more of a "Self-Imposed challenge for the fun of it" man. I just like poking fun at people who obsess over them.

Well, Mal does that. He punished himself by getting all of them in FFXIII.

I strive to get them only in the games I consider the most fun. Sometimes not even then.

The only achievement I've ever gotten on purpose was the "Legacy Pervert" on Ys Oath. Other than that I've never ever bothered with them. I just don't see the point.

I actually thought there was some extra funny sequence or something about it. But nah, just some glitching.

Heck, the Steam UI didn't even pop to let me know I had the Achievement already. Disappointing to say the least. orz

Played both games extensively when I got them, pretty well done with 'em. Achievements = perfect excuse to revisit 'em.

Besides, like I said in my op I'm playing ME2 almost exclusively at the moment and enjoying it (for the most part).

Yeah pretty much. I went to fire up VC earlier to see if there were any tophies I might have missed, then realized it never had them to begin with - neither did MGS4. Otherwise, much as I love those games, I can still recall pretty much every story moment in detail and would rather finish up ME2 or achievement hunt on XIV for the stuff that's going away in 2.0

MGS4 is a game I don't ever need to play again. Its not that its a bad game, its just the story was so extensive and my retention for convoluted story is so high and the gameplay variety is so low that there's not much reason to go back.

MGS4 wasn't like other entries in the series, it was obsessed with tying up loose ends and finishing the story. There's stuff in MGS3 that much like Super Metroid is so thoughtful and amazing it keeps me coming back across multiple versions of the game. There's all these fun little Easter eggs, quirks and strategy to uncover. MGS4 just didn't have that, part of it was the fact it was a global adventure and all the others were in fixed locations that could be deeply detailed and characterized. Going back to Shadow Moses gets MGS4 some cool points for the nostalgia factor. Its always a cool moment to come back to the ruins of a place from an older game.

Super Metroid, Portal 2, Deus Ex Invisible War all do that. Some places in games hold serious memories so there's some magic to that, but so much of MGS4 is hit-and-run that the return to Shadow Moses becomes its only real standout moment. They tried to do so many different settings. I get why, but its just not how MGS really should be.

If I really need a fix for MGS4 I have Youtube. If there's a version of the game that appears on Wii U or PC in the future, I might consider it. There's just no motive to replay it, though.

There are games out there that you play through once and you're through. And then there are games out there where your reward for replay is sheer bliss. Too bad that the latter is so rare these days ...
