Re: Spike TV/Gametrailers E3 Schedule
Small recap of the Nintendo Direct teaser
Iwata broke down some of the system's features upfront (apparently they have a lot to cover at E3):
- The Wii U Gamepad can be used to read cards or read/write data to figurines (a la Skylanders)
- Games can be collapsed to the controller if the TV needs to be used for something else
- The Gamepad can double as a universal TV remote
- The Gamepad can also be used to browse the web, but more importantly to access Miiverse
- Miiverse is an online social media that can be used for all games (think Demon's Souls or Darks messages, but merged with Facebook/twitter for Miis).
- A Super Mario Bros. Mii tease screen showed that this could also be enabled in-game and various Mii text bubbles were all over talking about stuff they saw in-game.
- There was also a Mii with an achievement over her text bubble.
- Miiverse will have video chat access for friends lists
- Similar to Windows Phones and 360, there will be a Miiverse app down the road to access your friends list from any device. So its like Near, but the social aspect is not restricted to one platform. Miiverse will also be coming to 3DS.
- The TV home screen will feature a spin on 3DS's Mii Plaza, your friends, family and other Miis will be seen swarming around various icons on the menu, perhaps even games you've not heard of (an interesting way to promote a smaller game virally, I guess) so you can see what's what.
- Wii U Gamepad has traditional analog sticks
- A Wireless Wii U Classic Controller Pro will be released for those needing something more traditional, it looks like the 360 controller, but with a D-pad that isn't shit.
- Wiimote, nunchuck and balance board will still be supported with Wii U.
That's about all I can pull off the top of my head.
No games were shown beyond existing concepts, though I guess they're saving that for Tuesday.
So far, so good.

Re: Spike TV/Gametrailers E3 Schedule
The D-pad on the new 360 controllers is decent actually (the one that can switch modes) but I found the 2nd analog stick placement on Pro Controller a bit weird.
It's above the buttons rather than below, that's gonna mess with my head for a little bit lol.

Re: Spike TV/Gametrailers E3 Schedule
I'm not sure I understand the idea behind Nintendo's concept of analog sticks being vertically higher than the face buttons, but if it works... OK. I do find the similarity to the 360 controller's form factor to be exceedingly amusing (insert joke here about Nintendo's innovation, yes?). It IS a pretty good shape to have a controller in, all joking aside.
Power button for the TV is a good idea if you're going to transfer your game to the controller screen to play elsewhere in the room.
Much prefer the analog sticks over the circle-pads on the main controller, though I assume this is something that third party developers insisted on; otherwise it'd be awkward to port games that use L3/R3 (i.e. Call of Duty).
Still no mention of whether or not you can use more than one screen-controller is a bit troubling, but hopefully we find out more at the official Nintendo E3 press event (or was it sandwiched in there somewhere and I missed it)?

Re: Spike TV/Gametrailers E3 Schedule
I rather like the Miiverse stuff and I understand it can be toggled off if one wants to keep a game spoiler free. It doesn't look like canned phrases either, but you know 14 year olds will try to break the language filter anyway.
Atlus just announced they're localizing Code of Princess for 3DS, a medieval street brawler by the creators of Guardian Heroes, will be coming this fall. Also that they're bringing Xeno Clash 2 to PC, 360 and PS3.
Activision is releasing THPS HD July 11th. Even if I were interested, my hands know better than to play that stuff. It's going to be a DLC fest anyway, so even less worth damaging my hands over.
Still no mention of whether or not you can use more than one screen-controller is a bit troubling, but hopefully we find out more at the official Nintendo E3 press event (or was it sandwiched in there somewhere and I missed it)?
Maybe they will show two WiiPads working or it, but with so many other input methods at your disposal (Wiimote, Nunchuck, new CCPro, Balance Board), I don't see a great need to have more than one.
-----------
I wish I could care enough to watch Sony's conference, but they've pretty much blown all their big titles such as The Last of Us, God of War Ascension and Shameless Smash Bros. Ripoff. I'm hoping there's a good deal of focus on making the Playstation Vita look better, particularly addressing the following:
- How shitty Near is on Wifi
- Lack of support for games its supposed to support, like PSOne classics and PSP games
- Fix Remote Play, you know, if you're going to brag about this competing with WiiPad conceptually.
- Add PS2 Classic support (probably won't happen)
- Price drop for Memory Cards by at least 30 to 50%. Sell that shit for what its worth, its class 4 read/write, so 16GB should be $30 at most.
- Price drop for the unit by at least $50.
- Oh and more actual games. That would be good, too.Last edited by Omgwtfbbqkitten; 06-04-2012, 07:41 AM.

Re: Spike TV/Gametrailers E3 Schedule
Liked what I saw of Halo 4 and Splinter Cell at MS' showing. Tomb Raider looked good too, but Lara looked like she was having a worse day than Nathan Drake ever had. If I were her I would have wanted to die by the end of that demo.
Fable The Journey.. lol no.
New Forza game looked good.
Wreckiteer had a pretty tattooed woman demoing it. I want to see more of the game so long as she demos it.
Nike Fitness game was the boring part.
South Park: The Stick of Truth looks good.
Usher can sing and dance.
Kinda interested in Smartglass.
Still not interested in Kinect, but maybe if they just made a Kinect-enabled mic I'd care. I liked what I've seen of the voice integration for most games. It's gotten way better since what Bioware attempted with ME3.

Re: Spike TV/Gametrailers E3 Schedule
AC3 about to be shown at Ubisoft
EDIT: Trailer was nifty, now they giving details.
EDIT 2: HOLY TITS! The treeclimbing is great (that must have been such a pain to code) and holy crap, the combat looks much more fluid. At one point Conor counts *3* Red Coats simultaneously. They capped it off with a freaking Aerial-Assassination with a bayonet.
EDIT 3: there was some kind of zombie survial game exclusive for Wii U, gonna look into that after dinner. The ubi hosts are, as usual, annoying as ever... ugh.
I thought MS conference was OK. Could have been better, Halo 4 and Tomb Raider absolutely rocked though. FORERUNNER SHOTGUN FTW!!!Last edited by Malacite; 06-04-2012, 04:02 PM.

Re: Spike TV/Gametrailers E3 Schedule
Because it was largely crap?
Honestly I feel like it may have been worse than last year, despite having arguably better game content this time around. I'm also really getting fucking sick of exclusive DLC. Stop fucking trying to dictate what platform I buy a game on by paying off the studios.
