Tales of Xillia localization revealed at Japan Expo [update: coming in 2013] | Joystiq

Tales of Xillia to be localized as a PS3 exclusive in 2013. Good ... don't need to import this game. I already put in the pre-order for their "Best" re-release of Tales of Vesperia on PS3, though, since it's highly unlikely they plan to localize that title at this point.

Edit: mis-read, they didn't say for what system, just that a localized version is to be released in 2013...

Its PS3 exclusive. They said that if Xillia sells well, they will localize Xillia 2. I had a thread about this, but it got eaten this afternoon.

      NA press release

NAMCO BANDAI GAMES AMERICA INC. ANNOUNCES TALES OF XILLIA™ FOR PLAYSTATION®3 SYSTEM

The Latest Tales of Title Makes its Way to North America in 2013

SAN JOSE, Calif., (July 6, 2012) – Leading video game publisher and developer NAMCO BANDAI Games America Inc. today announced that it will be bringing the Tales of Xillia™ brand to North America exclusively for the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system. The latest in the acclaimed Tales of Japanese role-playing game franchise, Tales of Xillia lets players enter the world of Rieze Maxia in a tale of unwavering convictions. Tales of Xillia will be available throughout North America in 2013.

"The recent success for this year's releases of Tales of the Abyss® and Tales of Graces™ f has helped make localizing Tales of Xillia for North America one of the easiest decisions we have ever made," said Carlson Choi, VP of Marketing for NAMCO BANDAI Games America Inc. "The latest game in this prolific series gives gamers a brand new world and cast of characters to get lost in along with its celebrated battle system that has yet to be rivaled by other Japanese RPGs."

Tales of Xillia follows Jude Mathis, a clever medical student attending school in the capital city, and Milla Maxwell, a mysterious woman accompanied by four unseen beings. Players will be able to choose either Milla or Jude at the outset of their adventure through the world of Rieze Maxia, where humans and spirits live together in harmony. The kingdom of Rashugal has been experimenting with a powerful device that has been draining the mana from the world. Realizing the harm it is inflicting on the world, Milla and Jude set off on a journey to destroy it and restore the mana back to the world. Over the course of the game their lives will intersect with a vast ensemble of characters that will teach them the strength of unwavering conviction.

Players will engage enemies with the critically acclaimed Linear Motion Battle System that the Tales of series is famous for. The system allows for real-time movement and attacks, giving the player a more tactile role in the midst of fights. The battle system in Tales of Xillia has been upgraded to Double Raid Linear Motion Battle System to let two characters combine their attacks to utilize devastating dual-character attack, letting fans strategize the best party setup for their style of play.

Tales of Xillia will be available in 2013 for North America on the PlayStation 3 system. Please visit Tales Series | Facebook and NAMCO Bandai Games for more information about Tales of Xillia and the Tales of franchise.

Thanks for that! I'm just ecstatic that at least Xillia is going to be localized (and here's hoping support in NA/EU goes very well to localize Xillia 2)

          Re: The Next Tales of...

The real question is, will it be like Abyss and include some of the things they couldn't add to the original JP version, like a Cameo battle...

I'm kind of lost ... what did you mean by this? Xillia hasn't been released for the Xbox 360 before (or any other system for that matter) and the game is still relatively "fresh" on the JP PSN (new DLCs practically every month) I'm just glad that they are going to localize this (versus Vesperia since that has been localized for the Xbox already) I would prefer to have both localized for the PS3 but you take what you can with Namco Bandai and roll with the punches.

Btw the DLC is all costumes.

It will cost you only about 200 for it all XD.

I think what people wanted were some things that have always been in recent Tales games. There is no Cameo battle in the coliseum. Many of the classic spells, including Indignation (which is really fucked up for the 15th Anny title) are not in the game. It apparently is short for a Tales of game (about 50ish hours), since some story elements were left out. I know Graces F took me 80+ to beat it.

I think when people talk about time to complete a game, I believe they are talking about primarily completing the storyline but not about any of the other things. Like in FFXIII (1 & 2) where, sure, you can complete the game in like 40 or 50 hours on your first run-through, but if you also think about what involves in the "end-game" and having to collect all trophies, then it would likely take you way more than 50 hours. Just like in FFT where people tell me, oh yeah, blah blah completed in like 40 hrs or less, but I would spend 100+ hours trying to get all the cool stuff or recruit certain characters.

Set Sophie to B only, Defensive and Always guard. This will force her to heal the whole time (I did this a lot for Cheria later in the game). For Huby-duby, Just let him eat it. He has the second worse defense in the game (Malik with the worst) and the boss won't really care if he is using his B style artes at a distance. If you get Arles Break, switch to Huby since he is likely the only one to have a Blast Caliber at the time.

Not sure if that helps or answers you question.

I cheated and grinded out a couple of levels and also a couple of dualing levels on armor and weapons (extracted some gems and equipped them) The fight went surprisingly easy after that. But I'll take your advice for future boss fights since I'm not a huge fan of grinding levels in any RPG.

Extending the fight against Bryce to 12 minutes (of futile struggling ... lol) was my personal best. My party is around level 33sh ... and I read that maybe level 40sh is earliest you should fight on Normal mode. The guy is extremely easy to deal with because he is slow (and charges up special moves that one-shot) but the problem is the AI for my own team is ... blah. Plus the healers tend to just stand there while he charges up his one-shot >.> I'm still having issues charging up so that I can perform Special Artes during combos. I think I need to look into upgrading my weapon in a different manner.
