Oh My... Blizzard, you did something great!

Normally I hate on Blizzard. I don't like their games, or much of what they do.

But, my friendshave been trying to get me back into WoW, so I read a few articles, and this one struck me as great. I think a few games should do this. Would help make the game feel like there's more people in it.

The one thing that caught my eye was this:

Q. Will I be able to group with my friends?

Yes, you will be able to group with your Real ID friends, provided they are within the same faction. The functionality works the same as it does for cross-realm dungeons, raids, or Battlegrounds.

So... According to this... You no longer need to be on the same server to play with your friends? SWEET! Too bad FFXI didn't do this.

So wait... Don't most games have this kind of thing anyways, just not to a degree of WoW's?

But one thing I have noticed... There are a lot less trollers, and grievers around on WoW.

Other games aren't also making it compulsory to have to deal with people abusing the cross realm Dungeon/Raid Finders. It's just adding less and less accountability to players in the game really. The people you play with are people you will never see again and there is no way you can warn people for any sort of dickish behaviour since they're on another server.

I mean before this, cross realm stuff didn't mean much unless your guild was so small you can't even find 4-9 others to group with. Now it's forcing cross realm stuff upon people and that is what is getting worrying.

This is a very misguided view in all the years I've played WoW and followed the development. Nothing can be further from the truth.

90%-95% of the time, 5 man cross-realm LFG has not been an issue ... and believe me, I used to spam the shit outta that service (5-8 runs a night sometimes) You'll get the occassional griefer or "bot", but you can easily deal with it now (right click on portrait -> "report")

The gold standard for MMO development is in Blizzard's court and especially with the upcoming MoP changes. You can argue all you want whether or not the actual content is to be desirable, but I'm only talking about service level and UI/functionality here ... and these are improved even better.

Can you please read over my post again and say where I said cross server LFG/LFR is bad? It's completely optional. If you have enough friends and/or guildies to queue with then you'll be using the tool for nothing more than the Weekly Justice Points bonus and instant teleport. I have also noticed that random people seems to actually behave when they find out they're in a guild premade (Happens a lot on WoW, especially now the immature players are off playing D3). But at the same time I've been that random in a guild premade and they have just used that as an excuse to treat me like shit and/or need on every item I can use so their guild can have all the loot (okay this happened to me more often on Rift than WoW but Rift's Raid community is pretty dickish anyway).

What I said is bad is giving the player no choice but to play with cross server stuff (which is exactly what cross server zones are doing) is just asking for trouble. I personally would have no problems with it if the zones that are cross server are in some way optional and not tied to endgame areas. It's actually a pretty good idea for the lower level zones and they are making it so that you are matched to servers of your type. For roleplay servers this could be a fantastic thing since it would give more people to RP with.

I'm loving the stuff being announced for MoP and I really an excited for its release. I would however be a bit upset if this was a compulsory thing for endgame areas.

This can vary from realm to realm and relies on how densely populated (or underpopulated) an area is. Capital cities and areas with regularly high populations will not be eligible for area sharing.

Capital cities and areas with regularly high populations will not be set as cross-server areas/zones so you will not be able to enter into the same instance of a city as someone who is from a different realm.

This part is making me think I'm just jumping to conclusions and panicking over nothing though.

When did Blizzard ever shoe-horned you to do anything in WoW? Everything is STILL OPTIONAL. I keep hearing this time and time again from a lot of people.

You made a blanket statement so you need to provide irefutable evidence regarding your blanket statement. So far, you only provided your own anecdotal reasoning:

"I got shafted by one person. Therefore, everyone gets shafted all the time."

You never once acknowleged that the game can't be perfect for everyone all the time. Not once. All you've done is explain why Blizzard sucks and why you want to put your money elsewhere. This is fine. But leave out the "facts".
