Re: It only does creative bankruptcy

Sucker Punch was probably purchased in response to Insomniac's departure, I'd imagine, given Insomniac for a longer time was pumping out stronger IPs than Sucker Punch and sought greener pastures the second the contract was up. Sucker Punch really didn't come into its own until iNfamous, though he Sly games were nice.

Given the two, keeping Sucker Punch is probably for the better. Insomniac has this way of running a franchise into the ground pretty fast. I liked SP's games better.

Ditto. That's why I might have to buy a new PS3 at some point, depending on the specs of the PS4. I'm basically up shit creek though if my current one dies as I don't have my old memory cards or my PS1/PS2 anymore.

And actually what happened was when Sucker Punch was commissioned for Infamous, Sony told them right away they wanted them to work on a sequel as well and I believe it was shortly after that that they bought them.

This is where I give Sony at least partial credit - they know damn well when they have a hit on their hands to buy up the studios. Microsoft couldn't even hold on to Bungie and has been closing down their own (at least previously) successful studios (I'm still mad at them for shutting down Ensemble). AFAIK Zipper is the first one Sony's had to shut down, and while I will miss their ambition, they weren't that huge of a success. Ensemble on the other hand has had quite a few big hits, largely the AoE series and I don't give a flying fuck what anyone else thinks, Halo Wars is hands-down the best console made RTS ever. No other game comes close to balancing micromanagement as well as that game did or has such a simple, easy to access UI.

Microsoft can't hold onto their studios because their corporate culture is allergic to creativity. Bungie leaving was basically them saying "We can't work under these conditions so unless you let us go we're all going to quit".

Yes I know, though it's rather ironic they left one tyrant for arguably a much worse one (Activision).

They claim that they're retaining the rights to the new IP they are making for them this time but I'm sure Kotick will find a way to fuck them over.

            Big Quote
Characters like Samus or Solid Snake notwithstanding, Nintendo characters have always fallen on the more cartoony side of things though so I think they would just fit this specific kind of brawling style better. Even if a character like Sonic came from a former Nintendo rival, he still has a colorful edge to him that makes him right at home with characters like Pikachu or Kirby.

With the current footage of this Playstation brawl game, it doesn't look as coherent. Even if the rapper dog guy would to be put in Super Smash Brothers, he would still look terribly out of place.

It's the cartooniness of Nintendo characters that make them work for Super Smash Brothers. Funny enough, it's the cartooniness than some of the pro-PSX/anti-Nintendo crowd love to site as why they dislike Nintendo games. Kiddy-looking plumber hops around collecting mushrooms and jumping on big colorful blocks? LAAAAAAAME!

Even with Samus and Snake, they were softened up a bit to match up the others in Brawl. Samus' power suit had always been a tad more exaggerated in this series and the had drawn concepts from Metroid Zero Mission. They even went with some of the hand-drawn stuff for Snake's Codecs based on MGS (though Snake's was touched up to have a mullet).

Pretty much everything placed into Melee and Brawl was deliberate, everything is drawn from some element of a character or franchise's history. So far PAS just mish-mashes things that happened together. Its cute you can be on a kinda LBP level and characters from Hot Shots golf are far off in the background pelting the foreground with golf balls, but it doesn't really do much to celebrate either series. LBP isn't even five years old yet.

Its hard to dismiss Kojima going to Nintendo on his own accord because he kinda of values MGS in the same way Nintendo values their IPs. Every MGS game bears a bit of the history of past entries, not just by story but easter eggs and trivia and fourth wall references. Nomura and Sakurai very much from the same line of thinking.

Where MGS dances near the fourth wall and never looks at it, Kid Icarus Uprising not only looks at it but kicks it down. Considering Brawl had a Nintendogs assist, that's really not surprising.

I could possibly see Kiryu from Yakuza show up as a 3rd party character.

Majima no niisan and Taiga would probably be better suited for the crazy. XD

And maybe Rikiya as an unlockable character for memories sake.
