NEPTUNE V (Victory) the next ultimate RPG!! Getting better and better!!
Re: NEPTUNE V (Victory) the next ultimate RPG!! Getting better and better!!
Platforming and RPGs go together about as well as peanut butter and mustard do.
That is, unless it's a Mario RPG, which still isn't as robust in terms of platforming as his 2D and especially the 3D entries.
Really, though, J9 I think these posts might have a shot at being appreciated if we all had some evidence by way of discussion that you actually play the tripe you only ever hype. Might I suggest you begging with the "What are you currently playing?" thread?
Now hold on. I'm all for RPGs that give you something to do on the field/dungeons other than walk and get into fights.
Yeah, but name one that does platforming as exceptionally as a good platformer. Even with all the progress Kingdom Hearts has made, particularly KH3D, it's still not terribly exceptional.
Re: NEPTUNE V (Victory) the next ultimate RPG!! Getting better and better!!
If someone wanted to give you platforming as good as a platformer they'd just make a platformer. What you're saying is akin to "Name one shooter that does RPG elements as well as a good RPG." You don't have to go all in, adding just a bit of another genre can still make for a better game.
Re: NEPTUNE V (Victory) the next ultimate RPG!! Getting better and better!!
Deus Ex, Bioshock, Borderlands and quite a few other games manage shooter and RPG elements well. To date, Metroid Prime remains the best first person title to employ platforming and I only mention it because there have been plenty of years to try and match it, no one tries. It's expected of a Metroid game, though.
I've just seen too many halfhearted platforming efforts in RPGs to be convinced anyone cares about making it fun. Again, only KH has really tried and it lacks a great deal of polish.

Sure, but it's also true that RPGs in general tend to get a pass when it comes to bad, grindy, convoluted or obtuse game mechanics. As long as you have enough brand recognition, a strong story or give players a big enough sandbox/a shitload of numbers to tweak it doesn't matter if your game mechanics are mediocre.

Regarding j9 actually playing video games . . .
I would totally subscribe to a j9 "Let's Play!" channel, even (perhaps especially!) if all it contained were walkthroughs of shovelware fanservice games with excessive mewing.

Ok, I forgot Portal. It really falls into the puzzle genre, though. Solid consistent platforming does occur there. Aside from that, probably Quantum Connundrum as well, but that's to be expected from the creator of Portal.
