Meanwhile the good JRPGs struggle to get released on Europe and America or just come to handhelds.

Ya, Neptunia series started out average, it still has original and emotional story with outstanding character interaction (and nice hard hitting battles, but of course not entirely what rpgs fans want for combat). So like the classic golden rpgs, which didn't have big production values or innovative gameplay, but still had heart with its characters and story and stuff, Neptunia still earned great respect!

But Neptunia mk2 really reached and surpassed some RPG standards, plus gives a lot more than big companies that are starting to sell partial and dumbed down RPGs (like Square-Enix and the whole XIII, XIII-2 nonsense).

You are bashing a series that already established itself as a solid RPG series, you didn't even play Neptunia mk2, have you, mew? It's like you discriminate towards it just because it somewhat enters NSFW territory, while ignoring it's intelligent and great qualities with humor, character interaction, deeper story and morals within, and overall heart and sincere feelings, which is lacking in many rpgs these days. Also Mk2's gameplay is very solid and even better than legendary rpgs like Chrono Cross.

Oh but you don't bash Zelda being generally the same every time (Link beating some Ganon-like enemy. No significant story worth talking about. boring characters. The only strong point of Zelda games are the puzzles).

Tales of Graces F being okay, but still brings back the generic feeling of Tales stories and characters. Neptunia characters blows them out of the water with more charisma, intelligence, and wider range of emotions, mew! Some say even Tales series is boring compared to Neptunia stories! although the strong point of Tales rpgs are its co-op, but I read that Tales of Xillia messed up its co-op because of the linking system.

so ya mew, like all rpgs each rpg won't interest everyone, but Neptunia getting a 3rd RPG proves it's successful, improving and have a solid fanbase, mew! Also the developers are taking Neptunia series in a much better direction than what happened to Tri-Ace's Valkyrie Profile series, moving up in improvement and quality mewness instead of downhill.

So ya don't judge harshly this series because that's like back then people criticizing the first 3 Final Fantasy rpgs and most people not even liking the series until Final Fantasy 7.

But Neptunia is already mainstream within the niche market at least, but still doing much better than other rpgs and providing more fun, better creativity and better characters than any other rpg, mew!

J9, I could sell you a Tic Tac Toe game if I "backed it" with an "emotional" story and a couple of risqué shots of borderline-lolita characters. And then I would do it all over again the next year and you would fall for it.

Which is a totally fair criticism because the first 3 games weren't all that great. A good chunk of that is due to hardware limitations, and any objective critic should take that into account, but the point stands that they haven't aged well.

By the way, criticizing Zelda for not having a strong story is like criticizing Mario for not having enough character development: it's totally besides the point.

All it proves is that they can spam low quality games and that a lot of gamers have terrible, irredeemably bad taste. There are plenty of commercially successful games that are bad and plenty of unsuccessful games that are great.

nuuuu, Zelda is not excused. The mainstream classifies it as RPG, and it entirely doesn't meet RPG standards, especially not in the story/character department. but it's overblown hype because of how old it is and how its fanatical fanbase is fueled by Nintendo, which helped pioneer mainstream console gaming, but still not as talented as its supporters claim. it is good thing Nintendo isn't the leading company because it's bad enough they set bad examples for controllers and really bad motion gimmicks.

but back to Zelda, that series doesn't even hold a candle to the Suikoden series and Suikoden was more deserving of success.

I mean even Vagrant Story despite not looking as good as modern RPGs, still has one of the best stories and gameplay in the genre (and that was incomplete version of original development plans), but ya when you speak of quality, a quality rpg is more than just graphics.

Neptunia has solid turn based combat system that totally surpasses even Final Fantasy X, mew! It is crazy that people would really underrate Neptunia mk2's gameplay and story and stuff which even brings back new rpg standards like New game+, a complete Coliseum, multiple results, and one of the best true story paths of all time, mew!

The storytelling is shit and that's why it's low quality. You can back up a lack of graphics with great storytelling and good art direction, but Neptunia has neither.
