Jaded Person (JP): It sucks. That toymaker is a cancer and will cause the downfall of the entire toy industry.
EP: Wahhh, you're totally wrong. [points at the ad] It's going to be the best ever, even better than the series 1 and series 2! No one else makes anything like this!
Witty Person (WP): That's because no one else tries as hard to cash in on schmucks. [canned audience laughter]
EP: You're all mean and being totally unfair. This toy is going to be the best in the history of history, you'll see!

Moral of the story: Neptunia is a series that rides its one joke into the ground and doesn't have anything else to recommend it.

I could say the same for any game you may have liked in the past ... and you have to remember, the games sell well in Japan and was intended for that audience. The developers aren't going to apologize to you, the gamer in the West, for their work. Don't knock the developer; if the issue is with J9, then speak to him/her directly.
Edit:
For the record, the second title was mildly interesting (first one was a snore), albeit titilating for pubscent teens ... But I'm not a rabid fan defending this title. But I do feel that there are those that are just as "enthusiastic" about not only attacking the game, but attacking anyone playing it.

This is why I skew to games like No More Heroes, Shin Megami Tensei, Metal Gear Solid or Xenoblade - here, my gamplay and to a lesser extent cultural interests are acknowledged. But not only that, these are games that treat the player as intelligent and not as a child. Its fine if we have to play as some wide-eyed teenager out to save the world, but I want to see actual maturity in him now rather than a coming of age moment before he returns to being juvenile, this is why a game like Valkyria Chronicles resonates, but Neptunia does not.
Incidentally, some of the most respected anime follows the same logic.
Its OK if you like trash, but at least admit you like trash. Neptunia is trash. I like Queen's Blade because it is only trash and I make no attempt to defend it as otherwise. What I will not do is tout it as emotionally gripping and high art because it is not.

I think many Nintendo games are trash, does that automatically force you to admit you like trash? It's all semantics. Point is Developers are free to choose whether they want to modify the original concept of their games to appeal other markets or not. In this case Gust didn't and just translated the untranslatable for the non-Japanese speaking markets.
It's not like they are trying to reboot an established and loved franchise for the sake of milking it or completely copying another popular game and adding just a character mod to it so it looks different.
If you don't like it that's fine, you are only considering the localization of it. But others will disagree, specially if they know Japanese and like this kind of niche stuff.
For my part I just like the music and the characters, but find the game goes way too much into the dating dating sim side with the dialogue format. Which is also why I didn't get into P3P that much even though the P4-ish gameplay improvements were nice.sigpic

Re: NEPTUNE V (Victory) the next ultimate RPG!! Getting better and better!!
Ray, what I'm saying here is the western market wants things like Cowboy Bebop and Ghost in the Shell and we're still getting a steady stream of Dragon Ball Z and Bleach.
The language barrier and voice acting have little, if anything, to do with it. Its all about tone. Just look at how those animes I listed are treated on both sides of the pond and you'll see a great deal of consistency in tone. CB and GitS have mature acting behind mature stories, very little of it lost in the translation because it acknowledges an older viewer while leaving just enough of a hook for the younger viewers (Ed, Ein, Tachikomas).
The fact I can detect a difference without getting into your usual language snobbery shows that its really about attitude, which has this way of being communicated without translation.
Japanese developers exhibit a poor attitude, generally basking in their former glory rather than accept the industry as changed and change with it. That's not an attitude worthy of respect and all the companies behind those games I listed - they're they ones that get it. Even Nintendo gets it, in fact, they've always leaned west.

But that rigidity isn't anything new, in fact many western companies exhibit the same amount of disregard for other markets' sensibilities.
If gamers want more appealing content from Japanese developers they will have to turn to the developers that are actually interested in the market. Lambasting those who aren't or who wont compromise their content to pander to other markets will do nothing to improve things.sigpic

You're entitled to think Nintendo games are trash. In the words of The Dude, that's like, your opinion, man. If you post on a forum about it and say that it's a fact that Nintendo games are trash, your opinion will be challenged, and people will expect some sort of reasoning behind it. If you don't have a reason (e.g. you just don't like them, which is fine) then you don't get to pass off your opinion as fact.

Miyamoto was just a guy that liked playing bluegrass and doodling, likely considered a failure by his parents as of his 20s. He could have become a businessman or designer, but he let himself be recruited by a game company and started drawing crude pixelated italian plumbers and apes. Now whatever interests him in life becomes some manner of game that sells millions - WiiMusic being the exception.
I wonder how many people would love to have his failures.
