Sonic Creator Hirokazu Yasuhara Joins Nintendo - Wii News at IGN

If we go by the guy's resume he has a bit of a history in collaborating with various studios as much as game creation. He's taking a position in Nintendo of America and not Nintendo of Japan, but given his history of working on games with other companies, I imagine his role could be like that of Kensuke Tanabe and Risa Tabata have with Retro Studios as they oversaw all the Metroid Prime games as well as Retro's work for Donkey Kong Country Returns and Mario Kart 7.

Nintendo did speak of working more closely with western developers a while back, too, so this could be the guy for the job there.

Gamesutra had a few more details about his move to Nintendo. He left Namco-Bandai last month and is now working at Nintendo's NST Studio, which has done work on mostly DSiWare games and also Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Mini-Land Mayhem and Metroid Prime Hunters. I curious to see what comes of it.

Nintendo also recently added some new staff to Retro Studios taking on people from Gearbox and Vigil. I'm getting really curious to see what Retro is up to, but I know we probably won't have an answer til E3
