  • RumorL Details on the next Sony console, Orbis

The Next PlayStation is Called Orbis, Sources Say. Here are the Details.

If true - while impressive spec-wise - Sony is completely off their rocker and no sane electronics retailer will stock it.

If MS goes the same route, fuck both Sony and MS, I'll be a Nintendo and Steam customer for life.

    Wow... Just Wow...

I may just skip this Gen of gaming... I do not like how they will not allow traded games. That's going to kill a lot of sales.

Instead of just killing off trading games, just make it so that the game developer gets what... a 10% profit from the game traded?

I don't like this trend where we keep moving towards a structure that depends on any given company's servers being online.
Server: Midgardsormr -> Quetzalcoatl -> Valefor
      Occupation: Reckless Red Mage
      Name: Drjones
      Blog: Mediocre Mage

Yeah, I'm fairly against online-only DRM and cloud-based gaming. Single player experiences should not need an online connection to be tethered to it. Steam DRM just requires I be running Steam, not be online with Steam. Valve very much stays out of the way when you play an actual game, so their version of a DRM is a non-issue for me.

If things actually go in this direction and keep going the way publishers want it to, we won't need a second industry crash since the industry will just kill itself.

But we'll still have Nintendo and Valve, so we might be able to rebuild again.

There's just so much disdain toward both the retailer and the customer from publishers - primarily third parties - I just don't see don't see many of them surviving in the next ten years when they treat us all like shit or just can't run a business.

Capcom is losing it, EA's brain checked out a few years ago, Konami is just ... well, I don't know how to describe what they're doing its not even hostile, just stupid. THQ would prefer to slap your hand away and drown in its failures.

I don't trade or buy used games, so that probably wouldn't affect me.

But no PS3 backwards compatibility? F that, there's no way I'll even consider buying the thing without being able to play my favorite games with enhanced capabilities. Just like with the Vita which I skipped due to it's inability to play PSP games I already owned.

          So long, Sony.

I don't deal in used games either so this doesn't affect me at all. Only those who are legitimate purveyors of used titles will have valid reasons for concern. The rest are more likely piraters who just realized that their burned copies will no longer work.

I do agree that having to have your ability to play games based solely on the availability of a company is disconcerting to say the least. If that rule applied, then a lot of us with vintage gaming consoles and game cartridges would not be able to play them since those companies do not exist anymore.

They can't be serious with some of this shit.

The backlash alone will bury them. If ANY of this shit gets confirmed at E3, especially the no used games and the locks, they can GTFO.

EDIT 1: What you get wrongfully banned? I've seen it happen to people, so that means they then need a new account AND a new copy of the game they already bought? That's horse shit.

EDIT 2: And why the fuck would there be no PS3 playback? IT'S THE SAME GOD DAMNED FORMAT!!! Ugh, god damn you Sony. Still reading the article.

EDIT 3: The used games thing HAS to be a troll, or else they're going to see a massive pushback from Gamestop and other retailers. Wow online DRM as well? Did Ubisoft not send out the memo to everyone already that this is a retarded idea and just pisses people off immensely? Then again, Diablo 3 is doing it...

All I have to say this BS

Wait. Region restrictions?! What region restrictions? Because implementing regional restrictions again would be beyond retarded.

I agree that the regional restrictions are illogical and don't serve any meaningful purpose other than to restrict financial gains for their software developers. I have a feeling it's the Japanese Government that's actually behind this as majority of these restrictions on technological use happen to coincide with the consortium partners who are predominately Japanese technology companies.
