Epic Mickey 3DS to be based on Castle of Illusion

They announced Epic Mickey 2 for all consoles last week, but said little of the 3DS version.

Epic Mickey 3DS is a follow-up to Castle of Illusion -Destructoid

Dreamrift - the studio that did Henry Hatsworth and Monster Tale - will be making thier Epic Mickey game a spiritual successor to the Genesis platformer, Castle of Illusion.

I'll probably get the Wii version, too, but this version gets priority.

I remember Castle of Illusion. Been too long, but I remember that game having this distinctly dark feel that gave me chills whenever I played it.

I never had a Genesis as a kid, but I remember playing it at a friend's house and thinking it was probably the closest thing to Ducktales (which was also awesome) Sega had.

Its going to be sprite based, but also styled after Epic Mickey. Like CoI, however, the Queen from Snow White will be the antagonist and lots of other characters will be making appearances.

This is gonna be awesome, I'm a huge fan of disney worlds recreated into platforming. I just hope they are good at level design.

If you haven't done so already, you might wish to check out either Henry Hatsworth and the Puzzling Adventure or Monster Tale for the DS.

Monster Tale in particular shows they have a pretty strong concept of the kind of level design and platforming that made Super Metroid and Megaman X enjoyable, so I think they're a natural fit for this game. MT was a bit more straightforward and guided than a Metroidvania is but even so the game was pretty lively and sprites looked great.
