I'd play this series if there wasn't one coming every half of each year.

You know when someone like Inafune says Japan is losing its touch, its games like these that spring to mind, as they have no concept that they will ever be played by people overseas.

Is it any wonder why Grasshopper has a cult following? That Atlus and XSeed play so well to their niche? That Koima Productions titles are still anticipated? That Nintendo still does incredibly well in the west and despite all the shit Capcom pulls they still have games that sell?

I go to those developers because they at least think in our direction.

While I don't agree with the notion of having to cater to the West to be successful I do think nowadays these games usually fall (rather fast) into the sequel disease that kills so many series. Which is why I never buy these games at release price.

They just aren't worth in any way the ¥7000 (80-ish bucks?) they usually want to charge for them.

I'm not saying "cater" so much as "acknowledge" your audience might be a bit broader than Japan.

Some of the best anime and the best games out of Japan do that. I'm all for learning about the Japanese culture, but I dislike that they sometimes pretend the rest of the world does not exist. Its the same reason why if you only set your TV shows in LA or New York I just tune it out and don't watch it. Those settings are a dime a dozen and don't really reflect the rest of the people watching them. Yet they think where I live is like Hazzard County or Mayberry.
