Anyone here know how to fix a bricked 360 bricked by one of Microsoft's own compulsory updates? Apparently there was a big dashboard update over Christmas or something and I haven't touched my 360 since MW3 (It was bought for me and I've liked the series since the very first CoD on the PC). With ME3 out tomorrow in the UK I was basically going to download all of the updates, patches and the DLC (since Amazon ran out of copies of the CE) so tomorrow I only have to sit through about 2 hours worth of installations.

Basically for the last 12 hours my 360 has been stuck on the "installing update screen". Last time this happened was with another compulsory update for the console that also bricked it.

Now this is important, last time it happened, oh yes boys and girls this has happened before on my old 360, Microsoft refused to repair it and claimed that it voided the warranty even though it was their own firmware that did it.

So yeah, have I been screwed over by MS again or is there a way to save this so I don't have to spend even more money to buy ME2 and ME3 for the PS3 or upgrade my PC to play ME3 just to play the one fucking game I've been looking forwards to for years?

While I think it's in warranty (had this 360 for 18 months now), I have no idea if I can get a refund as Game has gone bankrupt. If I do get a new console then I lose all my saves and will have to play ME 1 and 2 all over again.

It's been stuck like this for a while now. Ignore the wallpaper, I'm currently in my little sister's old room after moving back in with my father and keeping up with my current expenses is more important than replacing some tacky wallpaper I can just cover up with posters.

I'm pretty much doing this right now

Anyone know where to get a cheap new copy of ME2 for the PS3?

          I feel your pain.
My 360 is on it's last legs also. I checked my receipt and it's well past the 3yrs warranty thingy. Mine is struggling to read discs the thing is it's very rarely used. I played it on and off for a while when i first got it and did lost oddyssey, Blue dragon, Cod. Then it was put away in it's box & the plastic bags the parts come in and was stored till ff13 and star ocean came out. I did that and put it away again. I set it up last week because I got the dragon age games on the cheap at blockbuster and my 360 is taking forever to pick up any games in it. I have to open and close tray repeatedly until it reads it, After that I have no problems.

I wish I could help you.

How can they sell us unfinished games and expect us to shell out more £'s for the "ending" (dragon age is like that too )
          Why are 360's so unstable?
I still have a snes, megadrive, gamecube, dreamcast, ps1 and ps2 that still work fine. I'd even put money on the Atari my uncle gave me when I was younger still having life in it.

I have to say the 360 has been my worst purchase ever and that includes the tv I bought that blew up and set fire to my curtains. I'd rather have another one of them than another 360 !

Well I've managed to isolate the problem down to a dead Hard Drive, killed off by the firmware update rather than the console itself being bricked. That is just as bad since I lose all of my save data, all my DLC (this is important as Online Passes for 360 games can only be downloaded the once) and 360 Hard Drives cost nearly as much as the bloody console itself.

Basically I now have a new problem: how do I avoid losing everything?

              I have no idea mate.
I've seen you can connect to your pc but I've never tried it myself. I'm not sure if you could send the info over to your pc then send it back to the 360 when you have the new HD.
It's more than likely a longshot . Other than that I have no idea.
