  • FFXIII-2 - k thnx bai SE

Yeah so, I'm going to have to retract at least some of my praise for FF13-2 now.

It's official, I'm not buying it. Fuck you SE, I just found out that the Amazon pre-order bonus of Omega Weapon is U.S. ONRY!

I could still get the EB/Gamestop stuff, but I can't get Omega - just because I'm Canadian.

    Thanks SE, real classy.

Oh ya, mew, let me share my positive view of not buying FFXIII-2, it could help SE realize their mistake leaving those fools in charge of the series.

XIII-2 is so terrible, and so incomplete and so depressing, that SE needs a few bomps and whaps and "thunder cloud!"s to wake them up from such lazy and corrupt acts!

Money spent on XIII-2 is money better spent on Mass Effect 3 or something else, mew.

Report: Lightning DLC Scenario Coming To Final Fantasy XIII-2 | Siliconera

just because others are doing it doesn't give those meany SE employees excuse to sink that low.

And it looks like each Coliseum monster will each be sold separately.

In-game bonuses for pre-ordering is bullshit to begin with. I dunno why you're singling FFXIII-2 out for this.

Because this is the first time the series has chosen that corrupt path! It hurts the overall development of a Final Fantasy, only gives SE reason to now sell Final Fantasies as fragmented content, and even just toss the rest of the story in books most fans won't care to read since Final Fantasy is supposed to be, you know, RPGs, not books.

And what's worse is that their DLC plans won't stop there, they plan to sell episodes for XIII-2, and maybe character stories too. And not to mention each Coliseum enemy has to be bought separately. (like Omega and Lightning are separate purchases).

That's like FF7 having an incomplete Battle Arena on disk. And it also doesn't help XIII-2 is the worst story in the series.

I said I'm not buying it, not that I wouldn't play it altogether. Rent it for a week tops, get my fill and if I like it, wait until it's discounted like I got 13 for $20. I WAS gonna pay it full price, but then SE had to go and arbitrarily cockblock Canada. It doesn't even make any sense, we're on the same damned continent side-by-side to each other. But SE (not Amazon, apparently - at least according to what I've read) said no, screw that, U.S. only.

So what you're saying is that you're fine with the in-game bonus, you're just pissed off because you personally were inconvenienced. Not because the entire concept is inherently flawed, but because you personally got screwed over.

              Cry me a river.

Personally I don't have anything against pre-order bonuses as long as:

                1) They are not seller/region restricted. If you want to thank your costumers for pre-ordering then thank them all the same.

                2) They are mostly cosmetic.

                3) They are not used to try to coerce players to give them money in advance to secure some profit for a shitty game you know would fail otherwise. ST Online comes to mind.

But really, pre-orders are an act of trust in the developer. Bethesda didn't offer anything at all for pre-ordering Skyrim on Steam, and I pre-ordered from day one. Did I miss bonuses? ROFLno.

First day DLCs on the other hand are 1000% BS, as are most DLCs really. SE's DXHR DLCs are a good example of crap content that should've been in the game in the first place. Example of nice DLCs: Bethesda's.

                    Re: FFXIII-2 - k thnx bai SE

Eh, I wouldn't say they were crap - but they definitely should have been included. Nevermind the whole gamestop fiasco...

And as usual Cid misses the point entirely, big surprise there.

I've voiced my opinion on this kind of BS before, and I'm fairly certain i mentioned on our podcast that I'd rather buy the game from gamestop because it's far more convenient, but their pre-order bonus is a joke compared to Amazon's, and I'm getting sick in general of this kind of thing happening. I like pre-order stuff, but not when it can have a dramatic impact on the game - getting a shitty extra weapon & a costume is nowhere near having Omega Weapon as a party member.

Keep in mind that Japan got all of the DLC for free, provided you bought the game and downloaded it within the first week(s) of release. After that you have to pay, but it's all up there. No such option for everyone else apparently, and everyone outside the U.S. is just plain screwed.

Real great business practices there SE.

It's apparently a very strong summon. That said, considering how SLOW summons were at killing things in general in FFXIII, and the huge perks you get in FFXIII-2 for being fast (5* rank gives x3 drop rates), it's probably just a "nice to have but don't really need except maybe helps in a few long battles".

That said, I have FFXIII-2 pre-ordered from Amazon for it because I'm mostly indifferent to retailers, and it's the lowest price without tax for me. The DLC bonus is nice, but only because it's something I won't have to pay extra for later (knowing Square-Enix, the DLC exclusivity to Amazon won't last very long, and they'll just put it up for sale at some point).

So...It's not really any worse than getting screwed out of FFXII International or any Kingdom Hearts Final Mix. Ok.

It's not a big deal. As Icemage said, summons are slow and like some DLC preorder stuff I have a feeling they'll eventually sell or give it away anyway. I'm waiting on FFXIII anyway since getting a new 360 means I can be a cheapass and buy older games I haven't played yet. New stuff for now will be 3DS stuff.

I can't really even be bothered to care about non-physical pre-order bonuses because the very concept, in general, is bullshit. Its something created to placate retailers and little else. I think the only game I recently bought that even had it was DXHR and the content was so non-existent the Tracer Tong might as well have just been part of the main campaign.

I hate that I had to pre-order this game at 3 retailers to get the full game experience. I will, of course, be returning it to two of them, but this trend is a very annoying trend that I hope ends up hurting them in the long run (from all the people returning the games after they get their bonus key).

To be fair, retailers mostly do this to compete with digital distribution for the most part. I mean, its hard to compete with Steam sales and base versions there selling for less or the older games GOG puts back into rotation while Sony, MS and Nintendo make it incredibly difficult for older games to re-enter the digital market at all.

I mean, have you seen all the bullshit an old PSX game has to go through before it can be made downloadable? There's a lot less entanglements to deal with in the PC market.
