Re: Phantasy Star Online 2 opening video!!!!!! =0.0=
I hope so, Phantasy Star is in rather dire need of some stylish action elements. Sure, they have combos, but they're just the same ones over and over. They also need to even out things between ranged melee and magic. The Phantasy Star Universe games (PS2, 360, PSP) all favored the melee players. Ranged and Tech users got hosed for that entire series.
As much as people complain about balance in FFXI or FFXIV, Sega just goes out of their way to break one thing and neglect another and then make no effort to fix any of it. Oh, but you'll pay for the privilege to play it online while they fix nothing - This is the reputation Sega has to work hard to shed. No one is going to care about this game if they don't this time around. THey can't act like they're making this for Dreamcast or Gamecube anymore.
I'm just hoping when the say its PSO, they mean it. That one did have some balance in that the classes and races meant something. Phantasy Star Zero has really been the only highly enjoyable one in terms of gameplay for a decade because it returned to that.. The downside to that DS version was character creation was worse off than the Dreamcast version. Phantasy Star Portable 2 was awesome for how unique you could make your character look.
So PSO race and class balance with PSU's fashion sense and real, actual updates and expansions and I'll be happy. If Sega doesn't bring that they can fuck off.

Re: Phantasy Star Online 2 opening video!!!!!! =0.0=
I remember PSO being nothing but a torrential grindfest, using literally the exact same enemies and maps over & over & over on each new difficulty. It was like a very constrained Diablo, or an enclosed MMO if you will. Glad I never paid for it and only played a bit of the offline mode with my friend back in highschool.

Re: Phantasy Star Online 2 opening video!!!!!! =0.0=
there have been gameplay demonstations! stuff like being able to move and shoot, expanded combos, jumping and more! ^-^ PSO on dreamcast is one of the most revolutionary things ever, it was even the first with a simple to use 5 language communication system that auto-translates! So many great moments in PSO! Even before episode 2, people had great adventures and by the time they reached the deepest levels of Ruins and discovered extra form for Dalk Falz, there is so much teamwork and online experiences unlike anything on console or PC, mew! ^.^ also one of the deepest character creation for its time. it's not mmorpg deep but it has very distinct flavor. Re: Phantasy Star Online 2 opening video!!!!!! =0.0=
I've never been in to Phantasy Star, but this looks interesting. I hope they make the action component of the game really interesting, something different for a change (which is why I'm keeping my eye on Tera Online, to see what happens since I've heard good things about their action-orientated combat system).

I don't understand why anyone is jumping to the conclusion of how the battle system will work based off of a CGI trailer. Otherwise, Final Fantasy and a heap of other JRPGs have some 'splainin' to do.sigpic

Re: Phantasy Star Online 2 opening video!!!!!! =0.0=
Yeah, there's just not enough known about PSO2 yet to be really excited.
It mostly took a free-to-play version on PSP and DS for me even to be inclined to give a damn about the series and now that I've had them on portables, I'd rather just have more portable versions with actual improvements to the gameplay and gear systems.
While I'm not super wild about Monster Hunter, one thing it has going for it is the the work you put into your gear. You're not grinding away for a weapon or piece of armor to drop, but the parts required to build that weapon or armor and that same part can be used for different things. PSO just sticks to the Diablo method of "grind-until-something-cool-drops." Which may be weeks and, actually, is still rigged to a in-game play timer. That old gag.
The more you play, the more the rare drop percentage increases. Diablo did it, PSO did it, Too Human did it. All you have to do is leave that game running every time you go to work or got to bed and you have clocked over 200 hours in nine days and rare drops start happening a lot more. Its kind of disgusting to know that's still programmed in. I like the ability to at least see the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.
And then there's the imbalance between melee, magic and ranged combat. Hitting stuff is fun, but magic and ranged need to enjoy the same rewarding feeling. Make the magic a lot more flashy and effective and add some serious support and damage potential to ranged. Hell, if you want to make a class that's weakened for being in the direct melee, make a fucking tanking class and stop punishing techs and rangers. Make the races mean something more than Photon Arts attacks.
Really, that's all racial differences amounted to in PSU - photon arts. Gone were CASTs being able to spot traps and disable them or Newmans being more magically adept and humans being the all-arounders. Everyone was an all arounder and suddenly robots can do magic.
Sadly it seems all they know is how to maintain the grind.

Re: Phantasy Star Online 2 opening video!!!!!! =0.0=
I dont know how the battle system is myself, but as long as it is an improvement of PSU's like PSU's was to PSO's then I will be happy.........that and treat users outside the US a bit better......-------------------------------------------------------------------------
