  • Nobunaga's Ambition: Gotta catch 'em all!

Just when you think Tecmo-Koei has mined feudal Japan for all its worth...

Yep, that's some pokemon in feudal Japan there. To be fair, I have a strange attraction to crossovers like this. At least when they work. Kingdoms Hearts, yes. Smash Bros, yeah. Marvel Vs. Capcom totally. Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe? Not so much.

Never really played Nobunaga's Ambition, though. Isn't this the one that's more about resource management, diplomacy and managing army morale more than it is crossing swords? Oh well, at least its not another Mystery Dungeon or Pokepark spinoff.

At least its not Pokemon in the Three Kingdoms. I shudder to think what would happen if Lu Bu got his hands on Lugia and Chansy. He's hard enough to kill as it is.

My late Chosokabe Daimyou character is turning in his grave right now. And he was freaking cremated!

Seems like its going to have Fire Emblem-esque turn-based combat, which I guess would fit in with the rest of what Nobunaga's Ambition does.

Isn't that what Pokemon Mystery Dungeon basically was?

The Pokemon Mystery Dungeons were rougelikes minus most of the downsides of other Mystery Dungeon games.

Shiren the Wanderer and Nightmare of Druaga are also part of the series and a bit less forgiving. They're not like Fire Emblem at all. In A proper roguelike when you die, you lose everything and start over in level, progress and gear. When someone dies in Fire Emblem, they're dead forever and you just have to manage without them.

Given this is a Pokemon related game, I'm sure it will be more forgiving. Pokemon tends to be more about competition, though who knows if that element will be part of this.

New trailer with more gameplay footage this time.

Its certainly looking more like a Tactics kind of game. From looking around NA started out turn-based, but went to a slightly RTS direction later. Pokemon has always been turn-based, so going back to that makes sense. NA also had multiplayer in past installments, as does Pokemon, so i guess we can expect that. It'll be interesting to see if other elements from both franchises make it in, such as diplomacy and economic simulations or capturing Pokemon.

It was said that whether you pick the male or female protagonist, Eevee will be their first default pokemon.

Yeah, I found about this a couple weeks ago, and I must say personally I'm really excited. It looks like a few of my favorite things all rolled up into one. ^^

Fun fact: TK wanted to do Pokemon Warriors. Nintendo had to be the voice of reason and stopped that train of thought. Kinda like how Team Ninja had to stop Sakamoto from making a rail shooter out of Metroid.

TK has raped the dignity out of enough with Warriors.

Hopefully with the change of genre, Flareon, Glaceon and Leafeon will stop sucking.

How so? From the few Iwata Asks I read regarding Other M, he wanted an action game.

Those took place well after the press interviews with Team Ninja. Iwata might be a modest man, but he still wants his guys to look smart. Team Ninja steered him away the on-rails shooter concept early on before it ever took root in the game's design.

Sadly, they didn't stop him from the hackjob of a story because they're honestly not that great at story themselves.

Pokémon + Nobunaga's Ambition Is Selling To Adults | Siliconera

Interesting story. The game isn't selling like gangbusters, but it broke into an entirely new demographic.

its also interesting when I hear people bring this game up that normally wouldn't even pay attention to a DS game, much less one about Pokemon. One of my friends was talking about it at the store some random customer was like "What? That's real? I want that."

Then again its the first crossover game in a while where two unexpected worlds collide. First it was MVC, then Kingdom Hearts which really knocked people for a loop at first. This fits that sort of odd combination.

Here's about 11 mins of gameplay footage:

Now, don't misunderstand the like, I didn't like the game one bit. I was kinda having trouble going to bed, but after a few mins of that video I'm more than ready to go to sleep.

So if everything fails they can commercialize it as a sleeping therapy.
