  • Re: DIABLO III - J9's thread of infernal enthusiasm!

It seems like the point of the trap was to bait Imperius into falling from virtue and to incite conflict among the angels. It wouldn't surprise me if the three that got sprayed with Diablo's blood happened to become major antagonists.

Well, from what I saw on the Diablo Wiki there's a very quick (like 1 second) scene in one of the D3 trailers that shows Imperius swinging at both Tyrael and Diablo.

I saw what they were talking about and it wasn't clear to me that the clips were necessarily from the same scene. I think it was in that trailer j9 was squeeing so hard about the other day.

Not really about Diablo specifically, but it's an excuse to post it and maybe get some discussion going.

I think selling PC games at stores has a couple of years to go before it's obsolete but I do find that pretty silly.

Am I the only person left who still likes to have hard copies of PC games?

I like having hard copies of games but not more than having instant access to them. Downloading it is always going to beat driving to some store and back for me.

After acquiring children, I found physical media to be nothing but a liability. >_> Also, I am a hermit and any time I can avoid leaving this house is a bonus in my book.

Amazon will ship things right to your doorstep, no human interaction required. But you have kids, so all bets are off I suppose.

That means possibly paying for shipping though, and it definitely means waiting for the package to arrive. I want my shit now. Have a hard enough time waiting the extra day and a half for Legend of Korra episodes to show up on nick.com as it is.

I did not know those were there. Last reservation about cancelling my satellite service: gone.

Go for super saver shipping? Waiting for delivery isn't that bad, at least no worse than waiting for release day to arrive in the first place.

I guess if you're really that impatient then I guess digital distribution is the way to go.

Also: I totally intend to not watch any of the new Avatar show until the whole thing is released, so I guess we're just at opposite ends of the spectrum on this.

Well, waiting for release day is inevitable, waiting for shipping isn't necessary if you can download the thing faster. At least when you wait for release day you know 99% of your fellow gamers aren't playing the thing yet. Which is what's kind of mortifying about the Diablo III thing. You COULD be playing right now.

Totally a valid choice, many of my real-life friends are doing the same. Imagine that I had to wait for every episode to be released before I could start watching just so it would be fair to the people that prefer marathoning the episodes though. Not cool.

I suspect there wouldn't be such a kerfuffle about this if they'd just not opened up digital distribution until the retail copies hit shelves. If you have one version releasing before the other you're going to get flack for it, so they might as well keep everyone locked out until a specific launch day for everyone. If I understand it correctly what they're accomplishing by letting people download it now is that they'll avoid overloading their digital distribution servers come launch day, which would also get people complaining. You're impatient about not getting to play the game now? How aggravated would you be if launch day rolled around and you went to get your digital copy and were looking at a download and installation time comparable to that of FFXI? You'd be grumpy, because all the kids who spent the hour to run to the store and get their physical copy would be able to pop it in and be ready to go way sooner than you. It's just a case of damned if you do, damned if you don't.

I think that's hyperbole and not at all a valid comparison.

If you're going to be damned either way, you might as well be practical about it. Also, couldn't the server overload problem be fixed with torrents?

Only because of the magnitude of the waiting period. If Korra episodes aired frequently enough it wouldn't be invalid.
