Y'all crazy, NWN multiplayer was the shit (as long as you found the good servers).

    PS. Needs more mews.
Burning questions are burning: Is jenova_9 really a girl and is she cute? Does she talk like that in real life?

    Burning.

I didn't find the good servers. The out-of-the-box campaign was pretty bad at holding my attention and the overall experience felt a tad clunky.

        My reaction to NWN:

"Sweet! After all that time, I finally got all the components for the cure . . .

Wait. That was only part 1? Screw that noise."

Re: DIABLO III - J9's thread of infernal enthusiasm!

I just couldn't stand BG. Lord knows I TRIED but I just found it boring and combat too much of a hassle managing a party in real-time without any AI assistance.

That's why FF12 was decent, as Gambits did a fair job of minimizing the micromanagement. Yeah I know the game got high scores across the board but meh - agree to disagree and leave it at that.

You tried to manage combat in real-time? Well there's your problem. It might also be a case of the game just not being for you, but it is not a bad game and I find it preposterous to call it such.

And now we return to our regularly scheduled programming about Diablo.

The patch notes are hilarious, if only because it supports my suspicion that Diablo III will probably not make it to see release this year. Dropping THREE player stats sucks (why does Strength increase Armor? Why does Int affect health gained?). It's not like mages in general have vast amounts of health to begin with, so increasing the benefit there seems pointless for the classes that would actually add points to it. And I thought the whole point of Strength was so you could wear better gear (weaponry and ... armor).

Re: DIABLO III - J9's thread of infernal enthusiasm!

Trying to play any of those older bioware games in real time was futile. You have to pause and shit because that's how they were designed to be played.

I also highly doubt D3 will make it to release this year. Historically, has blizzard released 3 or more major titles in a year? I can't think of any, but this year has WoW expansion, SC2 expansion, and D3 slated. Somethings gotta give.

Re: DIABLO III - J9's thread of infernal enthusiasm!

I've played some RPGs where STR affects everything physical (HP, Offense & Defense) but yeah, wtf...

So, are equipments just going to have level & class requirements now? I still can't wrap my head around VIT not affecting heatlh globes and armor. What they've effectively done here is break Wizard & Witch Doctor by allowing them to focus entirely on VIT & INT, where as the other classes need a mix of at least 3 (in Barbarian's case all 4) stats. Yeah, that's real balanced Blizzard...

The game rewards real-time combat. The combat system wasn't the problem anyways; beats the pants off of oldschool turn-based bullshit. The problem was bad dungeon design, monster placement and excessive downtime. They put too many mobs in your way and downtime is too long. Basically it was CoP's dungeon design. The dungeon was short, but by the time you actually fought your way through it, 3 hours had passed.

The game was also unbalanced (melee was much better than magic) but that's nothing new. JRPGs don't give a shit about balance most of the time.

Did you just call Baldur's Gate a JRPG? I think I'm going to need a strong drink.

Magic was strong in FF12, mew. Of course physical is really good, but there is really beefy spells to use that really is the best form of attack in some situations, besides using them on flans, mew!

In my opinion, this is something they've struggled with through World of Warcraft, and have yet to perfect. Instead of meaningful system where each property has a relevant purpose, they all sort of blend together, each class pulling whatever stats they need from whichever stats Blizzard decides to put on their gear. It's hard to look at it and say, "this makes sense". They then added Resilience, which, if I recall correctly, has had at least two different purposes at different times. It was introduced as a way to lower the chances of being critically hit, and then changed to simply decrease all damage from other players. Neither of functions accurately reflects the meaning of the word. I'm not surprised to see that they're still struggling with this, but it is disappointing.

Last I knew, players couldn't even choose how to allocate stat points and each class had a fixed progression. Is that no longer true?
