I don't think it's that weird to incentivise players focusing on different skills to favor different gear affixes. You can choose not to use crit skills if you don't want to stack crit gear, or forego One With Everything if chasing a specific resist crimps your gear choices too much. Witch doctors are surviving inferno now without dogs; if you don't like stacking vit you don't have to use them.
There's a big huge valley between "my summons are completely worthless within 5 seconds" and "they live long enough to absorb more than one attack".

I would understand scaling if the difference were between, oh, 10 seconds and 20 seconds survival time. But that's not the case here. It's only a "choice" if all options you "could" choose are viable.

More to the point: This problem is present across all difficulties, so even if they balance it for Nightmare mode, scaling HP to the player's vitality isn't going to do squat in Inferno (and balancing it for Inferno would mean it would be overpowered on the lower difficulties).

Well, it remains to be seen how much pets will scale with vitality. They probably will lowball it and leave WD pets feeling somewhat lacking, but it won't necessarily be as bad as you're envisioning, either. At that, vit scaling is just one option mentioned by a community representative. It might not be the change they eventually implement at all.

Patch 1.0.3 Design Preview - Diablo III

---------- Post added at 11:02 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:31 AM ----------

Inferno balance right now has a difficulty gap in which Act I feels about right, but Act II feels like trying to bust through a brick wall. In patch 1.0.3 we’re going to be lowering that wall by adjusting the damage and health of monsters in Inferno Act II, III and IV.
      yay
Repair costs on level 60 items are going to go up a lot. Our goal is the next time a player is graveyard zerging a boss, it should occur to them that “this is probably not an efficient way to go about things”. We’re currently evaluating repair costs between 4x and 6x their current values.
      ugh
      Flawless Square
      Previous cost: 3 Square + 20,000 gold + 2 Tomes
      New cost: 2 square + 100 gold + 2 Tomes

Oh sweet titties yes, good thing I'm hording all my gems now. Eww at increased repairs.

It's not just the WD btw (he just stands out the most) but I've counted a good 5 or 6 skills per class that become outright useless in Nightmare and above regardless of what runes you pick, while others (like Mantra of Evasion) are just so damned strong you'd be retarded not to equip them. This is not good game balance; Diablo 2 LoD had a lot more variety to it with regards to viable builds, at least up until patch 1.11 I believe it was (it was shortly after the synergy update anyway) where they began nerfing too many skills and too severely wholesale along with virutally doubling enemy HP in Hell to the point where only a handful of builds in total were really viable.

It's too early to be talking about it for sure, but when they do make D3's expansion (and it's coming if the ends of A3 & 4 are any indication) they have got to bring back the Necromancer. Sorry blizzard, but aside from being the most popular class ever, the Witch Doctor plays like a severely gimped Necro. Most of the crowd control and debuff spells are completely half-assed and are too awkward or take too long to recharge to use effectively, and the pets are a joke. And above all else, Inferno mobs will die in scores to the wrath of the almighty corpse explosion. Nothing says fuck you like blowing up their dead friends for over 100% of their max life.

EDIT (can't believe TM missed this as it's HUGE):
We’re removing the bonus monster damage per additional player in a coop game.
        THANK GOD!

Just a warning, pot-farming among other things have been apparently hotfixed this morning:

The pots still drop gold they just reduced it - that article you linked claims they removed it entirely.

And I've still gotten 1k+ drops out of them on Hell but it's much rarer than before - bastards. Right as I started doing it Friday night they nerf it -_-'

Hopefully AH prices will start to drop.

My wizard has a spear that cost 3 million gold. At the current exchange rate that spear could sell for 30 real life dollars. Because that is even possible, my decision to use the weapon instead of selling it is effectively no different than paying $30 for the item. I have given up $30 that I could be putting in my pocket to use a fictional centurion spear. This is messing with my head.
