Re: Miyamoto to retire and not retire at the same time

In addition to making Xenoblade and Soma Bringer, Monolith Soft also collaborated with the Zelda team on Skyward Sword. They are absolutely first party.
They're a subsidiary. They're a completely separate company, which Nintendo has the majority share for and therefore gets control over who's on the board. The fact that they're Wii-exclusive and have a publishing agreement with Nintendo just makes them what people like to call a second-party developer. The fact that they collaborated with Nintendo on Skyward Sword is cool, but then again, Capcom collaborated with them for the Oracles games and Team Ninja collaborated with them on Other M. It doesn't say much on its own.

I'm not saying they don't have a really close relationship with Nintendo, but calling them part of Nintendo proper is wrong both legally and in practice. A game like Xenoblade just isn't Nintendo's style, and it's not their brainchild either as far as I know.
Nothing good comes of a new IP with no new real ideas behind it. I don't just want to be sold a character, but a concept as well.
You're agreeing with Sakurai then: "...it does seem that coming up with a completely new character-driven series has gotten more difficult recently."
