  • Dear SONY- FIX YOUR GOD DAMN SHIT ALREADY

This is seriously pissing me the fuck off now.

Every fucking time they do an update to the store or the PS3 firmware, I get slapped with this bullshit Error 8010103 that cockblocks me from accessing or downloading content from the PSN Store.

Everything else works fine, EXCEPT THE STORE!

I'm only just now, after hours of fiddling around with my equipment & settings and retrying a bajillion times getting the Back to Karkand DLC to download. There is virtually nothing wrong with my setup, everything is fine, just for some bizarre fucking reason PSN periodically craps out on me, generally whenever SONY adds new things.

Maybe it's because I have an older PS3, I don't know, because there were plenty of people playing the new maps when I looked earlier today. Of course, the map pack itself had mysteriously vanished from PSN for several hours only being put up again just recently...

Honest to Christ, at least Microsoft tells you with that pop-up the moment you get to your dashboard that not all of live's services are available or working correctly for the time being. With PSN you just get the same stupid error code, even if nothing's wrong on your end.

Re: Dear SONY- FIX YOUR GOD DAMN SHIT ALREADY

Multimillion selling shooter has its buyers trying to download the same thing at the same time and people are having problems downloading it?

    Gee, that never happens.

My advice would be try again later. Its in your download history so I'm pretty sure it will still be there tomorrow. Orr call Playstation customer service as there's little we can do here by speculate what your issue is.

That's odd. I fired up Battlefield 3 this evening and immediately started the download from inside the game. Didn't bother waiting for it, as I'm still working on the single player campaign (almost done!) but it's in my download queue. I'll finish getting it tomorrow.

Re: Dear SONY- FIX YOUR GOD DAMN SHIT ALREADY

Funny thing, I watch netflix on my ps3, however I went to sign in this past weekend, and got prompted with the "a system update is avaliable" So netflix can't log in because I can't access the PSN becuase i haven't updated, however I couldn't back out, to update my system because it only wanted to log in. So I had to get up and turn the ps3 off manually, because the ps3 button was locked out.

Not a big deal, but just thought i'd mention it. Only work around is to always check for updates before going into netflix.

I don't know if my shit wasn't setup to do it automatically or what. FUCK HAVING TO GET UP OFF THE COUCH.

          lol

Everything's seemingly working fine once again, just for whatever stupid reason my access/connection to the PSN Store just conks out temporarily without warning or explanation. Usually right after a firmware update.

Re: Dear SONY- FIX YOUR GOD DAMN SHIT ALREADY

Access to the PSN store is always a bit iffy after a firmware update due to serverside sync issues and the fact that millions of users are trying the same thing.

It happens a lot on XBox Live and Steam too. Just update overnight or in the morning instead of during primetime and problem solved.

Never had a single problem with PSN to date. You sure it ain't your ISP?

Really? Even during all those months when service was down?

Oddly enough, never encountered those service outages either. Then again, you don't need to log into PSN to play disc-based games, so the times I need PSN isn't exactly every minute of every hour of every day...

Months? When was this? If you're talking about the PSN outage after the hack attack earlier this year, that lasted 23 days or so (a bit longer if you live in Japan), and the shortest month of the year lasts 28 days.

Either you're unable to do math, you're remembering some other outage, or you're simply mistaken. Which is it?

The outage occured between two months and lasted just over three weeks for the US and EU, six weeks for Japan.

Even so, its not exactly a minor outage and by far the most notable service breach this year.

Agreed, but the phrase "all those months" implies "many", not "About one month, except for the people in Japan who got stuck for 6 weeks because of bureacracy."

If anything, I'm surprised people aren't perturbed over ongoing reports of XBL accounts being compromised which have been ongoing since September (and are still occurring). Those people really ARE losing money, and in many cases they're losing access to their accounts for 25+ days - some for much more than that. It's not the entire service, sure, but the fact that money is changing hands makes the problem worse than a simple outage in my eyes. What's really odd is why anyone is bothering to do it; Microsoft's doing their due diligence and refunding people (mostly), so you have to wonder how many cases are flying under the radar of people too clueless to realize their account has been hijacked to make this sort of activity profitable.

Re: Dear SONY- FIX YOUR GOD DAMN SHIT ALREADY

Compromised accounts in XBL are not really that different from the ones in MMOs. That's the same stupid shit just applied to console gaming, really. Happens with Steam accounts, too.

I don't know if you're aware- probably are, but just for the sake of getting it out there - there are RMT-esque services out there for achievements and since 360 popularied them I'm sure there has been plenty of account sharing going on with friends and these "services." You, too, can boost your bullshit Gamer Score if you're willing to pay out and let some kid in a Chinese sweatshop hunt cheevos for you.

The reason that's not common on PSN is because we're not required to pay for online play. When you subscribe to anything, you start looking at it as an investment and some people want their investment to look good even if its under false pretenses. Or they're just stupid about sharing info and not differentiating passwords enough.

If your Youtube channel handle and password are the same as your XBL one, a someone who has access to one might try for the other out of curiosity, spite or greed.

                          Happens all the time.

I grant you all of the above, but what's odd about the situation with XBL right now is that the exact same method of payment delivery exists on PSN in FIFA '12 - and there are no reports of PSN users experiencing the same problems. This indicates that there's something different about what Microsoft is doing between XBL and Windows Live that doesn't exist for PSN, and the bad guys are exploiting it somehow. There are a non-insignificant number of people experiencing the exact same symptoms; someone compromises their account, logs into FIFA 12, uses up all their MSP (and dips into their credit for more if they have a linked payment method), then something happens to that premium content (I assume it gets traded away in-game, then resold by a sock puppet account).

Microsoft & Security has had a long contemptuous and controversial history over the years. For example, all of these new incarnations of IE are still pegged full of security flaws that makes it as, if not more, insecure than Firefox 3.xx Windows 8 already has major security flaws and they haven't even made RC available yet. It's almost a paradigm of the company when they program complicated software that ends up being nothing more than a jumbled mess welded together with wishful thinking and out-the-door stock options. They seriously need to clamp down on internal leaks and lack of security procedures at that company. I witnessed myself how easy it was to even have the lowliest of employees bring in outsiders as guests to roam the areas freely - unsupervised.
