  • Vita gets its own unique region lock

PS Vita will only allow one PSN account per system -Destructoid

Remember how on PSP you could have ore than one PSN account, like a Japanese and a American account and download what you wanted.

No more of that. You can only have one account on PS Vita. Pick your poison and live with it.

Sony has indeed done a great job of stripping away every advantage it could have had over iOS and 3DS.

This deal just keeps getting worse all the time, or in this case at least sucks for those banking on Vita being region-free.

    Good job, Sony. Good job.

With the current exchange rate I was already reconsidering buying it, this only makes it easier to say no. And if they don't even allow you to play games from other regions (and not only PSN games) then I'm out for good, of course.

This might actually go back to the problem of PSN profiles and trophies. With PSN trophies being visible from both PS3s and PSVs (and with storage space at such a premium), this might be Sony heading a problem off at the pass with having the system run out of space to store all those fancy trophy icons. The PS3 doesn't have problems with this because it has a (quite large) dedicated cache on the hard drive, which the PSV lacks.

It doesn't seem like a deliberate region locking mechanic to me; if that was the intent, it's incredibly silly as you could just reset the system settings and input a different PSN login. It certainly doesn't stop you from creating alternate PSN IDs and using them - just not all at the same time.

That said, the memory situation in general on the PSV is pretty stupid in general; I just think this particular "feature" is a side effect of the memory issue.

Re: Vita gets its own unique region lock

its not something that would keep my from buying a Vita as it didn't stop me from getting a 3DS, but Sony did plenty elsewhere to prevent me from buying something I would ahve wanted at launch a few months ago.

Vita is releasing more incomplete than the 3DS ever was and expecting people to pick up the tab to make up for its deficiencies. That's not how you sell a product. At least with 3DS's optional 2nd analog nub, the attachment won't cost more than $20

You also can't freely move files from PC to Vita and back like you did with PSP. Going through the Playstation media center application on PC is mandatory for Vita.

This, of course, to prevent piracy again.

Which it won't succeed in doing, just like proprietary memory cards won't stop it. If anything, Sony's begging for it to be hacked to pieces in the first week. Or for PSN to be again.

Re: Vita gets its own unique region lock

Memory would be a bad excuse for it though. If people needed more memory they would then buy even more (overpriced) memory cards, so I don't see the problem there.

And we all know the restrictions will (yet again) encourage piracy rather than deter it. It's like companies enjoy hitting themselves with a rock over and over again on the head expecting it will help them stop a headache.

Re: Vita gets its own unique region lock

It just leaves me wondering what features PS4 will or more accurately, won't have to offer in contrast to the competition next generation.

Given so many of my friends are on 360, I often question why I got a PS3 in the first place. The idea was I'd probably get a Vita, that the Team Ico thing would live through this gen and also for its few worthwhile exclusives.

                  Vita is DOA.
Fumito Ueda is leaving Team Ico.

At this point I'm holding on to a PS3 only on the theory it might still get some interesting exclusives from Atlus, even though Catherine has proven that Atlus Japan will do Xbox.

I just don't like how much Sony as eroded the Playstation experience on their own.

I'm honestly finding my self agreeing with you bbq. I bought the ps3 thinking of was a good system from a trusted company. They are starting to have many issues and not many exclusive games that are good. At first I did not get an box due to not liking the company or the pay to play online but now. It's starting to sound like a good idea.

You trust Sony but dislike MS? They're both assholes.

They might both be assholes, but which asshole would you rather have - the one that remains a consistent asshole or the one that keeps giving you more to dislike about him? The asshole with a plan or the one that just makes it up as he goes along?

I honestly do not know who to stay with anymore, I have both systems, and will be keeping both due to my collection and exclusives..... but after the little XBox live BS I am still going through, I dont want to renew my sub for it, and Sony makes me leery about buying the Vita day one, I will be waiting a bit.

Re: Vita gets its own unique region lock

The reason why I trusted Sony was because it was a gaming company I grew up with, and knew, as well as Nintendo. MS only came into the picture when they wanted to start ripping people off of their money.

Now... Its starting to turn around, and MS is starting to become better than Sony. Hell, 85% of my friends play on Xbox now, and have stopped supporting Sony. I used to love the play station and their old games, but they keep puling stuff like this...

The Backwards combatability was just the first step in the wrong direction, and they keep making mistakes like this.

Thing is, both of them do know what they are doing, but they are executing it wrong though.
