  • I am r 'tarded.

So, quick question, since I am incredibly retarded and don't understand these things. I have a PS3 and my friend has a PS3. Obviously, each of us has a different PSN account, but if I buy a multiplayer game like Rayman Origins, am I able to take the game to his house and use it on his PS3 without it screwing something up on mine?

For example, I play the game online on my PS3. I then go to his house and we play it on his PS3 and play online together (on his PS3 and PSN account.) Is this going to somehow screw up the game for when I go to play it online on my PS3? I noticed some games on PSN-Store have ticket thingers you have to buy in order to use a used game online... And wondering if the game will think it's a "used game" when it's on his PS3 and not mine. Otherwise, can we just play it together on his PS3, but offline?

Thanks for answering my r-tard question. :]

Depends on if your save games are saved online (like in COD) or on the HDD (Like in almost every other game).

Achievments are stored to your PSN account and are viewable/editable from any PS3 hooked into the internet.

If your saves are stored online (like with COD) you simply need to log onto the PSN from his system... under your sign in. You will then have access to all of your online-stored data.

If your saves are stored on the HDD, grab a flash drive, plug it into your system and copy over the save files for the games you want to play at his house to it. Load them onto his the same way when you get there (takes 2 seconds... drag and drop). When you're done at his house (if you made progress that you want saved on your file at home) plug the flash back in, port your new save file onto it, take it home and dump it onto your system. Easy peasy.

IIRC, any data for a game that is EXCLUSIVELY PLAYED ONLINE... is stored on your PSN account. That is to say... anything I do on COD:MW3 (Online Play) at home... I can pick up and continue from my brother's system at his house. The campaign aspect of the game is stored locally on my system and I will not be able to access it without bringing said file with me on a flash drive when I go over.

Ooh thanks! Didn't know they could be saved to a flash like that at all. Do I still need to log into my PSN account then at his house in order to use the saves/play online?

        What game is it?

If you're playing something like Uncharted that has no online aspect to it, you have to bring the file with you but you will not need to sign into the PSN under your sign.

If it's COD or something else that you play ONLINE, you won't have to bring the file... but you will have to log into your own PSN account from his system.

        Does that clear it up?

Yeah that's the kinda thing where you'd have to load your save data onto the flash and bring it with you. The online stuff will be stored online and accessible if you log on from his PS3. The save data for the offline stuff will need to be taken with you. It's a mix-match.

It's easy, you'll get the hang of it the first time you do it.

You can take the game to his house, I believe, by logging into your PSN account, downloading it again, and authorizing his console. Give it a try, the process isn't fresh in my mind, but I've done it a bunch of times.

It's on disc, so I shouldn't need to download it (I hope? lol) Unless there's a patch for the game or something..?

This. I didn't even think of that.

                    Re: I am r 'tarded.

You might want to be careful with authorizing another console for your accounts, Sony scaled back the amount of systems you could do that with from five to two last month and if you get a PS4/Vita in the future, you'll have to go online to manually disassociate that console from your account.

Its one of Sony's "piracy countermeasures" which is to say an inconvenience and something pirates will find a way to sidestep soon enough.

I once brought this point up with someone who is incredibly pro-DRM. The fireworks were amusing to watch I suppose.

Best part is how the Piracy Counter-measures and regional locks end up being a huge encouragement for pirating things, and the lack of them a big selling point for pirated material sold on the streets.

Just give costumers a decent price and make it easier to purchase things from any region and you'll see piracy go down. But then again I guess that's just too obvious to even be considered by companies.

It's also Sony's excuse for proprietary memory card and locking out direct transfers of games legitimately bought games to and from PC and Vita. Going through that shit media center program of thiers is mandatory. All this is going to end up hurting the launch rather than help it, especially in the west.
