Never really been a fan of these. I know I should... being that I'm a NIS and Atlus fanboy... but yeah... never got into the Atelier series beyond Iris.

NIS America publishes popular, albeit less famous, kinds of RPGs not exclusive to NIS (these two are related but entirely distinct companies) NIS America also publishes anime outside of Japan and have sought those obscure and yet quite popular (in Japan) titles. They're also publishing the PSP Black Rock Shooter game early next year as well.

Pro-tip: Don't ever bother waiting for a new release of NIS America to hit the used bin or "Greatest Hits" since (a) they don't sell enough to qualify for that "Greatest Hits" label and (b) almost always their games cost more as the months pass since release. Hyperdimension Neptunia hit $150 at one point, brand new and I know I've seen other releases hit as high or higher before.

iirc Disgaea: Hour of Darkness made it to Greatest hits.

In fact, I remember the ebay prices for that game shooting to upwards of $100.00/copy... used.

But then they made the PSP version of the game, which floored the prices of used copies and flooded the market with a new batch of the PS2 copies. Soon after, the game reached GH standards and they spit out the ugly red-bindings.

So its not common, but its not unheard of for a NIS or Atlus game to be a GH.

That was a one off that Atlus eventually did so in agreement with Sony (Sony has the final say in these matters) and for the record, Atlus no longer publishes NIS titles. NIS America handles all aspect of NIS releases outside of Japan (They are a subsidiary, although with more leeway in their operations than traditional subsidiaries of a Japanese company) They never republish an older title in Japan and I don't see them doing so here.

Edit: For the record, there's been plenty of posts on NIS America's support forum for reprints and petitions and people filling these on their Pram's list, but for the most part, NIS America never seem to have made any indications in the past 18 months or so that I've been observing to fulfill these requests. Maybe there's a "minimum" number of people that needs to be interested in reprints (e.g., 250K)

              Re: Atelier Meruru

If NIS wants me to buy another Atelier game they'd better clean up the stability. I have Atelier Rorona, and I've started and stopped it a half dozen times because every once in a while during a crafting session or just travelling from one screen to another the game will just infinitely load and wander into the land of oblivion. Considering how much time-sensitive grinding you have to do in the Atelier games, this is just completely unacceptable for me.

As it stands, I've yet to pass the halfway point of the game because of exasperation at the random freezes.

I never played any of the Atelier games and never had problems with the other NISA published titles. FYI Gust developed the series (Ar Tonelico as well) Is it a problem specific to the distributed versions outside of Japan or is this endemic to all versions? If it's just a localization issue you can contact NISA and see if it's a disc production error. Otherwise, you'll need to lodge a complaint to Gust themselves
