It was all emergent.

I beat Mass Effect 1 and 2 on insane difficulty. Nowhere near the difficulty of some of the self-imposed challenges mentioned so far, but still an accomplishment. ME1 just becomes retarded on insane as most enemies gain near-perfect damage immunity abilities, but you can still ragdoll them so you basically just have to kick them around the floor until their immunity cools off and then they'll die. ME2 was a far better game in insane diff than on normal or hardcore though, imo. In retrospect that amount you can get away with on lower difficulties is huge. I basically had to relearn how to play for insane and the way it really forces you to play much more strategically, using every ability and piece of cover to its fullest, makes it a lot more fun and of course rewarding when you succeed.

Did the first two but never touched breeding. And it's not that Deep Dungeon kicked my ass or anything, I just usually for some reason or another put the game down and stopped playing shortly after entering Deep Dungeon every time. Sortof like the way every time I buy a chocobo egg I coincidentally end up feeling like I want to take time off from XI.
Breeding any Monster in that game was nothing short of painful. If not for the fact that there were certain "safe" spots on the map that were next to one another... I never would have had the patience for it.

100% completion on Okami. Anybody? The fights for the last couple of beads were pretty challenging. Could not get enough of that game.

            Never played it... meant to.

The secret is using the mid-tier monsters. They have a higher probability of giving the rarest monster than the rarest monsters themselves. Honestly though, that fucking dialogue they included always gives me a goddamned guilt trip so I never get rid of any unit, which means I never have room to breed monsters.

Also I am ashamed to say I haven't played Okami yet, nor Ikaruga, though I know I should. They're on the pile of shame.

I started Okami but never finished, due to a huge backlog of other stuff. But yes, I did hear that 100% on that game can be a bitch.

That's a mark of lesser shame on my record than still not having completed BioShock or Deus Ex, though. And I'm still about 40% into a Dead Space playthough that got interrupted by a return to KotOR.

                    Re: Biggest Videogame Challenges

                    Old school:
Flipped the scoreboard on a Gyruss arcade machine (several hours of continuous play on 1 coin). Had to quit from exhaustion, not because I was out of lives (had something like 15 left at the time).
                    Finished Battletoads in the arcade.
                    Finished R-Type in the arcade.
Finished Arkanoid in the arcade in one coin.

                    Sorta-old-school:
Finished Master Blaster (NES) without using the Pause trick (didn't even know about it).
Earned all ultimate weapons in FFX (that stupid lightning dodge minigame can die in a fire).

                    New school:
I don't have nearly the sort of free time to play games as much as I used to, and I certainly buy a LOT more games than I used to, but I still attempt most games on the hardest difficulty. More unusual are games that I enjoy enough to really dig down and explore, but really the only game I spend perpetual time with the past few years is Rock Band, so I suppose I should list being #3 for PSN in the world on Rock Band 1 vocals as my best "recent" accomplishment.

EDIT: Oh, I do have 100% on Okami (PS2). One of the very rare games that captured my fancy enough to really explore. I didn't find the last few bead fights "that" challenging. A bit random, but not nearly as difficult as other situations like you'd find in, oh, Ninja Gaiden.

I have not done it yet...... but as soon as I get me a copy of Contra, I will try to beat it without the code.....
