Re: SKYWARD SWORD - "Best Zelda Game Ever"
PA covers a lot of games like this though. It's more surprising that Aonuma's team was directly involved with this as well. They actually insisted on the water coloring given the style of the game.
Yes, this has to be incredibly awesome for him. Like, one of the heights of his artistic career thus far.
By the way, anyone rofling over the GameFAQ's board responses to that 7.5 Gamespot review? I mean, I agree that it's kinda a ridiculous score even though I haven't touched the game yet, but it's still hilarious to see the response threads over there.
Re: SKYWARD SWORD - "Best Zelda Game Ever"
I'm actually amazed Gamespot still exists to people after getting caught red-handed in so many questionable dealings with publishers in the past. Their editorial staff is totally compromised by the money of publishers that any attempt at journalism by them should be rightfully ignored, good scores or bad.
Also, Gamespot and GameFAQs are joined at the hip these days? Since when has GameFAQs not been full of depravity?

Reason: ADD: Now the I think about it, I think that I Day 1'd either Pokemon Black or SoulSilver, but those aren't Wii games.

Re: SKYWARD SWORD - "Best Zelda Game Ever"
By the way, anyone who hasn't done so yet might want to check out the various Ask Iwata interviews on Skyward Sword. They talk about a lot of things ranging from development roadblocks to how the battle system and environments are different from older Zeldas.
Re: SKYWARD SWORD - "Best Zelda Game Ever"
thats really pretty
I went over to gameFAQs boards for some laughs, but instead I was appalled at the sad complains by some people, who have not even played the game yet, but are basing their "opinion" (and I use this word lightly) on the past 4 games.
"Now that fighting itself is a puzzle I don't want to play it" is one of the main complaints..... well heaven forbid you have to think during battle instead of just swinging like a maniac.
I never really had a complaint about a Zelda game..... I will admit Wind Waker kind of threw me off, and I did not like to much that they used the same style for the two DS games, but that aside they where good games.

Re: SKYWARD SWORD - "Best Zelda Game Ever"
I've found that when it comes to Nintendo games themselves that their biggest detractors are as unhinged, if not moreso, than the hardcore Zelda fanboy.
They'll complain about puzzles and combat, but only because they don't like puzzles and can't bring themselves to admit that Zelda set the standard for a lot of puzzles and combat we see in other games today. The recent Batman games have Zelda and Metroid to thank for their toolsets and puzzle-solving. Hell, the final boss fight in AA was pretty much a pattern Zelda boss.
They'll complain about a lack of voice acting, but you know they'd complain if it had voice acting too. Its not something the series needs as it gains so little from it, not to mention chatterbox games like Mass Effect suffer on things like, oh, exploration while games like DX and TES are robust with it. Nintendo would rather just pour it all into game design given their format.
Even if they did have a bigger format, it would probably still all go into design. With this newer team, it seems the focus is on density of content rather than besting Twilight Princess on size.
But you'll hear these kinds of complaints from fans of other games, too. I've heard people call Skyrim "small.' Of course, they're comparing it to Arena and Daggerfall, which were much larger in scope because of copypasta and randomly generated dungeons. That and all the redundant stats and useless spells Skyrim disposed of - they complain about that, too.
They opted to scale down a world so the could handcraft it, make it authentic and believeable and load it with atmosphere. I'll take that over a copypasta world with randomly generated items and useless stats and spells in a second.
And like SS, its more dense with content. I can't honestly tell if its smaller than Oblivion or Morrowind as I can't really be bothered to run from one end to the other in any of them. There are too many distractions and diversions for it to be possible, even. And it has like 400 hours of story content - that's not enough for these dorks?
Proof positive that there are people out there that are just plain unpleaseable because they're unreasonable. They might be able to build their PC rig, but they don't have a clue how their games are made.
