    Uh, what?

Do you even know what Macro is? Macro doesn't automatically mean going for an eco style of play - simply put it's just shortform for your overall management. Chiefly production and resource gathering, and multi-tasking.

This where I usually get bit in the ass, as I have a bad tendency to focus too much on micro, trying to maximize every engagement and then afterwards I sometimes find a huge army at my damn doorstep and tonnes of cash banked. Having good macro skills is being able to constantly dump your resources into production and attacking/defending on multiple fronts.

It's the hardest but also the most important aspect of RTS to master, easily on par if not more important than even your strategy.

I know what macro is but I'm not sure if you know that macro doesn't need to be a big part of the game all the time. That's my point. When you worker rush, that's micro and not macro (cause you don't got shit to resource or build when doing so) Of course, this only works at gold and below, but I'm not sure where you guys are at and we're definitely not discussing diamond+ play here either.

And yes, a balance of macro and micro is good, but let me tell you something, at the higher end of play, micro trumps macro (not talking about neglecting macro either which is what you're doing especially if you're banking resources) because if you're careless and get 1/2 your army blitz in emp/psi-storm and leaving you vulnerable to being walled in with blow over of your expansions, then all that macro isn't gonna do shit for you. A well timed bait drop, clever siege or even expansion ninja are all part of the execution of skillful micro.

Yes it does, because you still have to make the build work etc etc...

Unless you're talking about just rushing with all your workers right at the start of the match and forgo all mining lol ... seen the AI do it once or twice.

That's what I meant by worker rush ... most players do not expect this and it is risky. I believe WhiteRa had this happen to him in some tournament. The execution was horrible from a pro player but the Day9 commented on the fact that if the player had a bit of a better micro than WhiteRa, WhiteRa could've been, ironically, cheesed at his own game.

I guess he didn't have any "special tactics" for that scenario did he

WhitRa just outmaneuvered him by putting up some random structure to cockblock the poor guy.

Depends on the map ... it also could work against the player (i.e., trapping his/her own workers in a neatly executed drop)

Re: Starcraft II Heart of the Swarm cinematic trailer!

It also means that attacking a protoss base with a largely light-based army (hello marines and lings/hydras/mutas etc) is freaking suicide.

Shit, attacking protoss in general is suicide now when you consider every building is a potential photon canon. Granted, it does 5 +15 to light, but still, that's extra firepower the other 2 races can't muster on the spot. It also makes stealing a player's gas with assimilators that much more annoying. Run in with an early probe, hijack both gas if you can and then soon as the gateway's up just frag their workers.

Blizz is going to have to restrict this ability just a bit more - I like one guy's suggestion of only applying to buildings that require a pylon (except the nexus of course) or something to curb the obvious potential here. This ability is potentially more devastating than canon rushing, and certainly harder to stop.

It also means players will have to be much more vigilant when watching out for gateway rushes since you won't just be able to throw all your workers at the incoming gates or pylons to stop it.

Re: Starcraft II Heart of the Swarm cinematic trailer!

Well, remember that the tradeoff for being able to spam ad hoc cannons is going to be completely avoiding chrono boost, which may not be worth it depending on the matchup. This does look overpowered in the video, but as the poster says his opponent wasn't very good. If he'd responded better to the scouting probe there wouldn't have been half as much shenanigans, and a more skilled player probably could have worked around the assimilator and teched to a defense. Like any early cheese tactic, it seems like a player with a cool head and good situational awareness should be able to fend it off. Even if it does turn out to be OP in its current state, tweaking its energy cost or changing its dependency to forge or cybernetics core should bring it back in line pretty easily.

Fun fact: Roy was actually top tier for a while in Super Smash Bros Melee. Roy is like the worst character in the game.

People shouldn't be too quick to call something OP. It often doesn't last.
