Sure, the Terran plot arc isn't that deep, but the characters were great, the cut-scenes and briefings kept me completely engaged and immersed, and the Protoss mini-campaign was epic.
    HUGE TERRAN CAMPAIGN SPOILERS OBVIOUSLY:

    I agree the Protoss vision campaign was epic. My issue with the story was, like you said, the Terran plot arc isn't that deep. To me, that's a big issue. I felt it didn't really bring us anywhere new. I acknowledge it had some good character development, but it needs a deeper plot to go with it. Most of the plot seemed like it was about collecting those energy shards and Jimmy's revenge story. Nothing really changed except at the very end of the game, and even that was an expected ending (except for, well, Tychus). But even Tychus didn't move me all that much because I had already known about his double-crossing. Just... nothing real moving, nothing I was really ever engaged with, kinda just a bland cookie-cutter throwaway story.

      Fair enough. Well, they did a lot of setting the scene. The Fellowship of the Ring wasn't all that great, but you know big things are coming story-wise.

        You know, if they had developed Jimmy and Tychus' relationship better, and really tried to hide his betrayal until the end, it could've been a great showdown at the end between them. I think there was a lot of potential that wasn't executed properly. But... you're right, the stage is definitely set for some interesting developments for round 2... so we'll see.

          I really enjoyed WoL

          Wasn't maybe as epic as it could have been, but I was thoroughly entertained, and the protoss side missions (along with the secret mission at Mengsk's lab with the hyrbid) really got me going.

          That said, I never want to do the last mission on Brutal ever again. Holy fuck that was nuts.

          I only play MP casually as well, but I LOVE watching HD's channel on youtube. I'm also kinda hoping the new units might mix things up enough that I can get back into competitive play but I still have a very hard time improving my macro damn it. I've got the micro down fairly well save for some of the more advanced tricks, but then it doesn't help either that I play arguably the hardest race to micro (Terran).

            That and the high score at Lost Viking are the last things I need to finish single player achievements. I decided I wanted to do my research differently so I could EMP Kerrigan, and when I was redoing the campaign I lost interest, stopped playing for a while and completely lost all my skill. ><;

              Hate it when that happens! Not only with Starcraft but with other games too! Come back later and you just suck so you can't do that final achievement you had not finished yet. Thankfully I did the last mission on brutal back when I was still obsessed with SCII, because after that I pretty much quit, and I know I've lost pretty much all my skill by now as well.

              I'd suggest watching a youtube video of someone completing that mission on brutal, 'cause as I recall, seeing someone in action really helped me succeed.

                Oh my god I came like within a few thousand points of that and died...

                I wanted to break my monitor. Haven't tried it again since.

                  It's not really "hard." I think you have to clear it two and a half times in a go, and once you've done it once you can do it again easy enough. Problem is it's just so damn boring and it takes forever so it's easy to lose focus and foul it up. Definitely the least fun achievement in the game.

                    I think there was a way to do it easily enough ... I'll go ask my friends. I stopped playing back when we were Platinum (under the old ladder ranking) for 3v3 and 4v4. It was stupid to come across people using 3rd party hacks. I mean, why even bother if you can't compete fair and square? Do people have such low self esteem that they resort to those kinds of activities?

                      Hacks weren't common in Gold or Silver, but they were there. Yes, I was in both Gold and Silver. I suck at SC2.

                        To be fair, platinum in 3v3 and 4v4 isn't the same as platinum in 1v1. My son was on a couple platinum ranked teams in season 1 and he's never been able to get out of the bronze league in 1v1.

                          I played a lot of non-arranged games, just random team members, and the win always seemed to hinge on which team received fewer idiots. The whole matchmaking system is built to reward the lucky few.

                            That's because there's a lot more pressure in 1 v1, and SC2 as a whole is balanced around that match up.

                            I'm in a similar boat. I have no problems coming up with strategies & quick solutions/counters, but I always die to my macro skills.

                                No it isn't the same but that depends on what kind of platinum player you were. You could hit platinum but never stay there or you could hit platinum and would've been in diamond+ if the ceiling didn't keep you there.

                                @Mal

                                You can't use macro for every game. If the opponent you're facing is 1-dimensional, you could really screw him over with a simple worker rush. The key is understanding who you are facing (usually in these types of games, 60% of the players you face, assuming minimum 100 matches a month, are the same faces over and over)

                                And then there's scouting, scouting, scouting but you know the pros don't need to really depend on that either. Once they meet the same other pros over and over then it really comes down to who has better timing and who can be the biggest jerkwads (lol @ Idra the victim of cheese, time and time again)
