  • Chrono Cross, Final Fantasy Origins rated for PSN

Oh, Chrono Cross? And Final Fantasy Origins, which includes the franchise's first two NES installments? You mean those games that have been available in other territories' PlayStation Stores for a few months now, leaving us to stew in a bog of our own jealousy? You're telling us that they were recently rated to be released on the North American PlayStation Network? Well, guess what -- we don't care anymore.

We don't care that we'll be able to play Chrono Cross on our PSP, taking the magical adventures of Serge, Kid (and a third party to be named later) on the bus with us. Maybe if you'd gotten to us a few months ago, our hearts wouldn't be so cold and calloused.

Cool. I never did get very far into the game, and it was SUCH a long time ago that I played it.

I still absolutely hate the game's battle theme though.

I beat it a few times to get the various endings, and collect all of the party members. that game.

The only thing this game needed was the ability to skip spell animations and manage your Element Grid easier. They made a battle system that revolves around casting spells, you'd think they'd have kept the animations short...

So much for this game though.

Can a mod fix the title btw? I only meant to put the headline in there, not the URL as well >.<

Am I the ONLY person that likes spell animations?

I think they're great, but you should be able to skip them if you want to. I don't need to see them in random battles or on my 20th+ cast of the spell. Taking care of common enemies just takes too long. They could've had short versions like they did for the Aeons in FFX (which if I remember correctly would still show you the whole thing on the first cast.)

Mal, you're missing the point. Yes, there are longer animations out there but you don't summon Eden every fight. Not sure how much you remember but in CC *all* your spells have relatively long animations - even the ones from the start of the game. The game encourages you to use spells often because there's no MP to limit you, and repeatedly using the same color of spells strengthens all attacks of that color (including your melee attacks) and lets you use summons. That may not sound too bad in itself but the enemies also often use special attacks just like you. Even doing regular attacks takes a couple of seconds, because the game uses a Xenogears-like combo system - but enemies can interrupt you with their attacks.

Contrast that with FF7 where I can have all 3 characters attack in 2 seconds for decent damage. 2 seconds doesn't even get you through one combo in CC. An FF7 spell may be 3 seconds long when you take into account the casting animation. A CC spell can be 10 seconds long easily.

I loved this part of the post...... I have both of these on my shelf.... I find it funny that a lot of people did not care for these games when they came out, or did not keep their copies, and then magically because you can download it, its "OMG its coming out finally"

To be fair, 11 years ago I was just starting high school and depended on my parents for money. Couldn't just buy every game I wanted. It's not like there weren't already a shitload of good games on both the PSX and N64 at the time. And don't forget N64 cartridges were really expensive - Zelda was like $90 (EDIT: $80, actually) when it came out. I imagine a lot of people were in similar circumstances.

EDIT2: Also, it's not like hardware doesn't wear out. My first PS2 stopped reading discs about 3 years ago because the cheap plastic gear that drove the CD lens got so worn it wouldn't catch the other gears. Basically the lens couldn't move.

Loved this game for the PS1... So is this only coming out for PSP or PS3, as well? I r confuzed.

Which is exactly why I used Eden very often.

Just loved the GF cutscenes. And VIII in general.

it is a PSX classic, so yeah it will work on both PSP and PS3, funny though since FF 1&2 came out as separate games for PSP a little back

Yea, they where nice.... But they just took too long IMHO.

Yea yea... Flashy flashy.... But then... It looses its "Oomph" after a bit, just like the card game for the PS3.
