    Battlefield 3 beta system requirements | Joystiq

    Also, the top comment confirms my fears and validates my decision to get the PS3 version;

    In order to achieve Ultra graphical settings, you would at least Two GTX 580s in SLI, a 6990, or an overclocked GTX 590.

      Yeah, I am NOT getting a $700+ GPU just to max out BF3.

      Fuck that. By the time I get my next PC I'll probably be able to get the same card for around $300~400.

        Or you could play it at medium settings? I mean, I like pretty pictures as much as the next guy but all that crap really only matters to me on the first day when I'm playing with the settings and thereafter whenever I post a screenshot. During the action who really gives a damn? When you get your next PC and have that video card for cheap, then play at maxed settings.

              I only have a GTX 465, and that barely runs XIV at an OK pace.

              I can wait and enjoy the PS3 version until I get my next rig.

                Probably one of the worst benchmarks for gauging your PC's performance right there.

                  How, exactly? XIV is incredibly demanding, as will be BF3.

                  EDIT: Beta starts next week on the 29th! WOOT! (27th for anyone who pre-ordered PC off Origin). Also, PS3 gets all DLC a week earlier than 360

                    Becauce XIV demands much more to produce less in terms of visual quality than a game with a more standard engine? Plus SE's implementations tend to be ... iconoclastic? It's entirely possible to have a rig that runs XI like crap, for example, while running more advanced applications beautifully.

                            This. Don't really know if this is the case for XIV but I remember how XI's crappy weather effects would totally demolish your smooth framerate and they didn't even look that good.

                            Anyone can write code that consumes a lot of resources, the real trick is getting good mileage out of the resources you consume.
