Xbox Live coming to Windows 8 | Joystiq

As part of Microsoft's continuing effort to provide its users one all-encompassing ecosystem for all of their entertainment needs (or something), the company has announced that its latest operating system, Windows 8, will support Xbox Live. Exact details on integration are forthcoming, but the biggest question that surfaces in our insatiably inquisitive minds is: What does this mean for Games for Windows Live?

What for? Windows has already supported Steam for the past three revisions.

To lock owners of competing consoles out of multi-platform multi-player.

If it works as "well" as Games for Windows Live, Microsoft can shove it.

If it means that PC users can play PC versions alongside 360 users though, that's major win - ESPECIALLY if it means the addition of dedicated servers.

Not that they can't do that already (again, ty Valve) but it's extremely rare.

Plus I'm not even going to upgrade to 8 in like 5 years anyway.
