  • Persona 4 coming to Vita, Persona fighting game to PS3/360

Atlus' Persona announcements finally came to light today.

PS Vita will be seeing Persona 4: The Golden (that's what it roughly translates to) for PS Vita and Atlus will be collaborating with Arc System Works to make a Persona fighting game.

The story for the fighting game will takes place two months after the events of P4. I'm worried about how long this story could run. Word is P3 characters may also become involved.

I'm guessing the Vita Version of P4 will feature a female arc just like P3P did and probably minus many of the cuts the PSP version had to make to be ported over).

Why Vita and not PSP? Well, the fact they were struggling to shave off mere kilobytes text files just to get P4 to fit on a DVD might be a clue. P3 had to make cuts to 3D areas and anime cutscenese to make its jump over.

There was Persona 5 news... and that it was using an internal engine made by Atlus (as opposed to Gamebryo, which Catherine used and thankfully didn't suffer for) and otherwise it was going ot be a while before that came out. But it was confirmed for PS3 and 360 (probably not a leap to guess Wii U as well at this point).

What didn't come up is the still mysterious 3DS Persona title. Could be anything, but probably one of the four Persona ports.

    Edit: P4 Vita details posted:

Famitsu lists out the new changes and additions, and producer Katsura Hashino tells them that the Vita version will remain faithful to the original while also adding many new elements. Remember the cuts made to fit Persona 3 on the PSP? That won't be an issue here.

Here's some of the new things you can expect in the port:

    3G and Wi-Fi support
    New event scenes
    New Personas
    New character outfits
New anime movie scenes, with new voices
1.5 times the voice of the PS2 original
New song for the opening movie
An unnamed element requested by fans

There's also a new character named Marie, voiced by Kana Hanazawa. Andriasang says that she's a mysterious girlwho appears before the main characters. Also, there's a new feature that will probably save your ass a few times: When you're about to die in a dungeon, you can send a message seeking help to other players to bail you out.

    Can't wait.
Yeah, definitely a female character option. Seeing as more voice was needed for it and it was a very popular element added to P3P that fans would want back for another version.

Re: Persona 4 coming to Vita, Persona fighting game to PS3/360

After P3P revolutionized equality for the series, PS4 Vita sounds worthless if it doesn't include P3P's great female MC feature, mew.

series should have female MC option as standard feature by now, mew. Girls play rpgs too and it's sickening how few new rpgs these days include female MC option and the ones that do are average or lower (FFXIII), unless it's something like TES or Mass Effect.

Well ya Tales of Xillia has that option but Persona 5 better have female MC option. It's bad enough women aren't represented in many sports games series (world soccer, basketball, etc. I mean come on mew, only like in golf, volleyball, tennis and those cheap Olympic games??) as well as military shooters (when there are women working just as hard in the US military, in real war and stuff, but they don't get acknowledged in most game industry shooters, not even MAG, Battlefield 3 and COD MW3! )

Well ya I know it isn't confirmed whether or not option is included in P4 Vita, but Persona 5 especially should have female MC option since it sounds like it's coming to console (and Vita will be too expensive to invest in at the moment.) But ya, if P4 Vita has female MC option like P3P, then that would be great!

P3P was their first attempt but they did fair job with how characters treat female MC. with P4 Vita, female MC could be treated even better and different.

But ya, I will hold my final opinion about it until all the features are fully in detail and confirmed.

    aaah is this true?

Maybe it was, but seeing how much trouble they had getting everything they wanted on the PS2 version, they would have had to cut quite a bit more from P4 for a PSP version.

But they have enough hardware and stuff to fit female MC and extra voiceovers/story differences on Vita. oh well, maaaaybe Persona 5 won't disappoint since that is being made from scratch.

So I guess this means I wont be seeing an HD collection for a while (if ever.)

(That's too bad.) I'm not interested in another Persona portable game.

Persona fighting game screens are out in the wild, and they look amazing(!)

So That's What a Persona Fighting Game Looks Like... Wow

I was like... "ho hum, how does Persona work as a fighting game?" to "Whoah." Arc System Works + Atlus.

Re: Persona 4 coming to Vita, Persona fighting game to PS3/360

Now the real question is if the story mode will not be crap. Usually fighters have a flimsy story and such is even the case for Dissidia, which banks of fanservice more than story.

DOA Dimensions actually wasn't shabby on is story mode, but still, it was a DOA game. I would say it just tutored you better in its style of play than most fighters bother to, I wouldn't dare suggest it was a good story. It actually made blatant continuity errors to align itself with Ninja Gaiden's NES heritage, which is something the PS3 and 360 versions tried to avoid (before re-inserting Irene Lew into the universe, anyway).

This Persona fighting game is building on two really strong RPGs and its going to be somewhat expected that the story justify the presence of the P3 characters that should be in college coming together to fight/work with the P4 kids.

Plus, you know, the MC from P3 is kinda dead, you know, to keep Nyx sealed away for all time.

Still, using Mitsuru and anyone else to beat Yukari's face in is worth the $59.99 alone.

Also, cute how it seems like Rise and Fuuka will be maintaining their commentary roles.

              ------

Here's an image of a new female character joining the cast of Persona 4. I believe her name is Marie (P4 did have the token American exchange student missing). She looks like what the daugther of Kanji and Naoto would look like... and a bit bitchy. And if she had Chie's legs.

Some are speculating she's a social link character, but she really screams "cast member joining the party." Plus there seems to be a halloween event in the game now that I don't recall being their previously. At least, I don''t know of any Japanese holidays where orange and black would smother every corner of Junes.

                New trailer for the Vita version ;

When this hits the US, I'll probably get a Vita. Needs more interesting games first and it doesn't have many of those.

Interesting note: In the trailer the new girl's got a persona card that shows up next to her.

The Fool. She may be like the protagonist and not have a set Persona.

Latest on the game is Elizabeth and Dark Labrys have been added to the roster.

Persona 4 Team is writing the story mode so this might actually be a fighting game with a good story for a change. We'll see anyway. Additionally, Shoji Meguro has done a great deal of new music for it.

And how about an instant kill reel?

                    Good News:

Persona 4: Golden Will Shine On North American Vitas This Fall | Siliconera

Dunno if I'll have the cash to spare for a Vita by then, but I'll still pick it up just to have it ready for when I do.

                    Bad News:

The actor and actress that portrayed Teddie and Chie in the original version of P4 have been replaced. Teddie is now voiced by Sam Riegel and Chie is voiced by Erin Fitzgerald.

I'm pretty sure Erin can get close to the original performance, but if P4 Arena's new english trailer is any indication Sam doesn't sound as good as the original Teddie. This could, however, only be the case for P4 Arena and not The Golden.

Turns out Arena will be the first Region-locked PS3 game. No reason has been issued to Atlus USA, so they can offer no reason at this time.

EU importers are pitching a fit, but honestly, they only have to wait til August 31st for the EU version. All versions have Dual Audio so I don't see what all the fuss is about.

How long did I have to wait fit Xenoblade and The Last Story? Five to eight months after its release in Europe, was it? Who's getting Fire Emblem first?

Yeah, cry me a damn river. I have plenty to play while waiting for stuff like this.

If you had to buy stuff from awful local distributors maybe you'd ave a better understanding of the situation.

Here in MX you HAD to put a chip on your PS2 or you missed probably 90% of games, since only pirates would bring games at decent prices. Why? Because here we pay 30-50% more than you pay in the US, while earning in pesos. And the selection was so bad only lolMario games and kiddy-labeled made it here for the most part.

So if local EU distributors want to inflate prices (which they already do) you are forced to buy from them since the game is region locked. And for instance, I've bought new games direct from Japan and Hong Kong cheaper than from the US and waaaaaaay cheaper than in MX. So yeah, that could be one of the reasons for the outrage.

Yeah but as I understand it, EU tends to pirate a great deal more than other territories, which unfortunate fuels publishers with a reason to region lock, not mention importing puts sales somewhere else than where you as a fan would like them to be seen.

Put it this way: if I imported Xenoblade, I have no reason to buy it again. If I dont buy the US version, that tells NOA they were right and we don't want games like that, yet we do.

Enter retailers and distributers that now see a market to exploit. I think there are things in the US that actually prevent that for retail , but it's clearly not the case for EU. Though there was a time Atlus put Persona 2 EP to reprint and Amazon Vultures scooped up all the copies before fans could do anything. And they jacked up the price.

If that's somewhat the case your implying with distributors, then yeah it sucks, but pirating and importing don't seem to improve the situation, it just allows it to perpetuate itself. I'm pretty sure Japanese shareholders don't even think there's much difference and it would be the shareholders at Index Corp pushing for region locks, not Atlus USA.

What was hysterical about some of the reaction was "GameStop must be behind this!" GameStop probably had fuck all to do with it. They're one of the few US or EU retailers that will stock these titles, aside from those online.

Sadly, though, none of this truley affects me in the slightest. I'd only begin to take issue if online passes and online DRM was involved.

Region lock doesn't solve the situation, as sales in today's world should be considered globally, instead regionally. All regional locks do is making people pirate more.

If a game sells more as an import it just means people wants the original imported version more than the localized one. So if anything it tells NOA they suck at localization and that they should include the features importers are looking for. And if it's just a release time issue then it's telling Nintendo not to be stupid and release worldwide at the same time.

The market's messages are pretty clear most of the times, and companies have never been able to tell people how they should consume their product to begin with. Even less now than ever, so all they need to do is listen and act accordingly.
