Then again, Cid hates humanity in general so goodwill gestures are really just evil schemes to subvert the truth.

Additionally, the fellow who got fired for posting the email - given that's against the rules, I can't say I'm surprised. Depending upon your position in certain businesses, you're forbidden to disclose information in advance. You know, so your competitors don't know and don't take advantage.

One rule Gamestop needs to revise is how their employees express opinions in social media, blogs and such. More or less, there was a court ruling saying you can't fire someone over what they say on social media. Dunno what level of court, but there's a precedent for that being protected speech

Posting sensitive corporate info is a different matter and fire-worthy..

I just say what I want about Gamestop, its not like I have anything to lose but an employee discount and an otherwise fictitious job here. I just don't have the time or energy to rage about stores and if I have a bad experience, I don't repeat business again. Pretty simple stuff.

Emergency PR measures are hard to take as genuine good will when they're pretty obviously about damage control.

Sure, sure. But like other dick moves by corporations in this thread, there's a big difference between what GameStop has a right to do, what they can be expected to do in their self-interest, and what they should do. Do they have the right to fire him? Probably, though I'm slightly surprised there isn't some kind of whistle-blower protection in place. Slightly. Is it in their best interest to fire him? Of course, since he's more likely than others to publish potentially embarrassing internal missives. Does he deserve to be fired? That speaks to a notion of punishment for an action that's detrimental to society, and I believe the answer would be no. The reprisal on GameStop in the form of bad PR and whatever the gift certificates are costing them may be disproportionate to their transgression, but in general I think we want our corporations to be more transparent and not take actions that would cause their customers to feel angry or ripped-off if they knew about them. So good on him.
