We get it Kailea. You work for Gamestop. They're your employer, therefor they can do not wrong.
honestly that does not even have anything to do with it, I would feel this way if I did or not. Besides I am not denying that they did it, but people need to get it that SE broke an agreement with GS. They snuck in an ad for a competitor into their boxes, hell they even admitted it, apologized to GS and bought back all the copies GS sent back to them.
People are bitching just to bitch, GS did not steal anything from anyone, they took out a coupon that had no value at all, that should not have even been there to begin with.
.......and yes Icemage I am glad that someone, who took internal corporate information, and made it public, got fired, you go do that in other corporations and see what happens........

I seriously don't know where you get this idea that corporations (be it Square-Enix, or GameStop, or anyone else) need any sort of "defending". Square-Enix screwed up. GameStop screwed up. That's why they're both apologizing.

What's so difficult to understand about this?
Icemage
BECAUSE GAMESTOP IS GOD.
(Or Jesus. I'm not sure which one people think is better anymore... Combine them into one for a super being. JESOD!? I'll stop talking now.)
People are bitching because GameStop did something incredibly shady. Can you honestly tell me with a straight face that you think it's perfectly ok for a retailer to open up products, rummage through them, alter the contents and then turn around and sell that same product as if it were brand new?
was brand new, game or code was never used, only and ad (again was not to the there in the first place) was removed
I am not defending the act as a whole, because I honestly don't like how employees can check out new games, and that game still sold as new (on the off chance that a gut copy is sold) but I do say that yes GS was in their right to remove the item from the boxes, and people keep using the word "shady" it is not shady if they don't keep it a secret
Many things people jump on the "hate gamestop train" are just over exaggerated as well.....
now I say this for normal stores, because I know that there are bad ones, but they are few (been to 10 total games stops and 1 was "bad")
a bunch of games are not gutted, 2 at most of each game is gutted the rest are not
in normal stores PC games are not gutted at all, for any reason (my store refused corporate order to open the games and remove the vouchers, and I am sure there where many others)
employees are normal, they are just as good or bad as any other retail store
again people just wanting to get on the hate gamestop train, and its the same tired BS over and over, when half of it does not even hold merit. Is GameStop perfect? no, is any retail store chain? no, so why all the extra GS hate?..... Haters.......
Why should I, the paying customer, be arbitrarily held to a different standard than some corporation whose existence I only begrudgingly accept at the best of times? HINT: Square-Enix is irrelevant to your answer (as has been stated in this thread, if Gamestop had some sort of problem with Square-Enix's product, the correct response would've been to take it off the shelves somehow . . . of course, with a name as big as Deus Ex, one could see how they would've gotten a bit too greedy to do that).

However much I am actually smart, I got that way by confronting how stupid I am.
Wait, hang on. My understanding is that they were keeping it a secret. Otherwise why would they have fired the guy who leaked the email? So because someone exposed their distasteful practice that somehow exculpates GameStop of being "shady" and you say that guy deserves what he gets? Sounds pretty backwards to me.
Guys, as much as you'd like to keep raging back and forth, I'd like to inform everyone that for those people that bought the PC version of the standard edition at Gamestop for PC, they will be getting a $50 GS gift certificate on behalf of SE and Gamestop.
The Augmented Edition for PC didn't have the Onlive coupon in it, so no gift card for them. This according to an assistant manager who got the email yesterday morning.
You may now resume your irrational hate for Gamestop and the people that work there. Have a nice day.
